Pre-made meatballs

by Becky M » Fri Jan 13, 2012 1:43 pm

I usually make a huge batches of meatballs and freeze them.... but i have none packed away and am feeling meh about working with tons of ground meat.

Can anyone suggest a good brand of packaged meatballs? i have heard a couple of people suggest the GFS brand... but have never tried them myself.

Becky,
I use meatballs from GFS but they are the Primo Gusto brand. They come in 1 oz and 1/2 oz sizes and are in a maroon bag in the freezer section. I use the 1/2 oz size because the grandkids like the smaller ones. These were recommended to me by a friend and we think they are quite good--I keep them in the freezer most all the time.

They told me at GFS that the GFS brand meatballs are larger and come in two grades--Deluxe and Regular. The deluxe has more meat and the regular more filler. Have never tried this brand but he told me that the price is refundable if you don't like them.

Hope this helps!

Not sure how it would compare price wise but Lotsa Pasta has had frozen meatballs in the past. As I recall they were pretty good.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

The only pre made meatballs on the market that are worth eating are also available at the GFS Market place. Look for the Mamma Ranne brand that are made by the fine folks at Fontanini. The true sausage kings of Chicago. :D They sell them in 10 lb. boxes.

Great video on the Fontanini website, Dan. Thanks for sharing. I remember how much I enjoyed sampling their products at the Pizza Expos in Vegas. Greyt stuff.

Will definitely have to check out their meatballs from GFS.

Becky, GFS is open to the public. No membership required. Excellent products, though most are in fairly large quantities.

There's one near Petsmart in Clarksville on Veterans Parkway.

Is this brand normally found at your GFS location? I couldn't find them in the Clarksville location. Perhaps they're popular!

They have them at the Hurstbourne location but not at the Jefferson Mall. You can get them to order them for you though.
