Working on a batch of my famous Lasagna and taking a pan to a neighbor who is a shut-in.

I once made some for a friend and her family. That was 20+ years ago and her father STILL mentions it every time my name comes up in conversation.

When hubby and I were dating, he proposed marriage after eating my Lasagna. No telling what might happy tonight!

Bistro Yvette ( my name in French according to HS French teacher)
I got the Bouchon cookbook for Xmas so I'm preparing a bistro menu For dinner tomorrow. Today I made French Onion Soup. Starts with 7 qts of uniformly sliced onions, carmelizing over 5 hours  down to 2 cups.

The reminder of the menu is tomorrow:
Salad with Herbs & House Viniagrette
Trout with Haricot Verts, Almonds and Brown Butter Sauce
Potato Gratin
Cheese Plate with Wildflower honey

I'm spending my day off going around town to get great ingredients; then cooking in the afternoon. A fave way to spend a day!
Bon appetit!

Actually, the recipe is quite easy to make, although I've been informed I cannot make it again until I lose 10 lbs. or so. ;)

A simple curry of root vegetables - carrots, turnips and parsnips - cooked with onions, celery, ginger and garlic and light Indian spice. Served with mixed white and brown basmati rice.

Eggplant baingan bharata with chickpeas. Went great with rice, a Bell's Two Hearted Ale, and ragas on a Pandora Indian Classical Music station.

Homemade gnocchi with brussel sprouts, caramelized onions and guanciale. Salad of romaine, bleeding heart radishes, dried cherries, and zucchini "paparadelle". The wine was a Paolo Scavino Rosso IGT '09.

Ken,
Yum! Where'd you source the guanciale? I've been wanting to get some. :D

I got it on my last trip to Chicago (small deli on Grand called Bari Foods). I haven't seen it anywhere down here, maybe Lotsa Pasta has it occasionally, or would order it in. It's not hard to find pork jowl bacon down here, but it's all smoked, so not really the same. You could also mail order from here, I love everything these folks make:

Chinese twice cooked pork with leeks and three kinds of fermented bean product. Also, spinach stir-fry with dried chili peppers and Sichuan peppercorns.

Food lust and keeping guests waiting far too long caused me to forget pictures.
