Re: What's cooking? - Austrian Night

by Jay M. » Mon Jun 04, 2012 11:31 pm

Traditional Austrian dish from the Tirol region: Speckknödel (bacon dumplings) served with the very crisp and tasty Hiedler Grüner Veltliner (in an appropriately Tirolean Riedel stem in keeping with the theme) and followed by a viewing of The Sound of Music, which is, of course, set in Salzburg.

Sounds great, Jay! I don't know why the image view counter lies. I've looked at the pic, and I'm sure others have too.

I have to click through the link to see the pic. Looks awesome, and I love that Gruner!

Robin, do you still have kale left? These kale chips are more addictive than Lay's....http://www.salon.com/2011/02/12/how_to_ ... singleton/

Robin I thought of you as I was making this...... (no meat). It is celery, carrots, onions, peppers, garlic all sauteed then good ol' fideo was added. No meat but definitely not vegetarian.....what made this awesome was the beef broth. Totally awesome and meaty flavor.

Looks great, Becky! Here's our dinner tonight: Bhindi Bharti Masala, Indian okra, onions, tomatoes and spice, using up the last batch of okra frozen from last summer's garden. More is coming soon!

Didn't last long enough for a picture:

Blue Dog baguette bruschetta with homemade smoked roasted garlic aioli, maytag blue, maltese style sausage (peppercorns, roasted coriander, pink salt, smoked onions) Parmigiano-Reggiano sprinkle

Homemade pesto, egg noodle fettucini, smoked bread crumbs

Strawberry puree, shortcake, whipped dark chocolate cream

Coma

Grilled house-constructed fresh Sauseej Italiano, in a swamp of fresh tomato garlic marinara, surrounded by a ménage à trois of grilled peppers, sweet onions and polenta cakes drizzled with extra, extra read all about it virgin olive oil.

Served with a slosh of Montepulciano d'abruzzo from the cellars of Tradare Guiseppe.

Steve, it looks like something is missing from that code, but I'm not quite sure what. Did you go through the steps in the attachment tab under the message entry panel? Is the picture under 600 pixels square? Describe the symptoms, and I'll try to help!

If you want a vegetable-based main course that's hearty, filling and flavorful, it's hard to miss with something from India. Like this treat using farmers' market veggies, Aloo Patta Ghobi, a fiery blend of fresh cabbage, tiny new potatoes, sweet onions and fiery Indian spice.
