Thanks for worrying about me. The 1 year limit is for peak flavor and whole spices can keep longer than that. There is nothing dangerous in keeping any spices/herbs/leaves longer. If I get great smell out of crushing spices/rubs, I know they are still good to go. But your point is well-taken- I also need to go through my cabinet and pitch some.
