What is on your all-time FAVORITE Pizza?

by Mark Bellou » Sat May 21, 2011 9:01 pm

Just for fun, I'm curious to see what everybody's favorite pizzas have on them. I've made some crazy cockamamie concoctions over the years and I thought it'd be cool to see what you guys/gals think.

My go-to would be:

-Basil Pesto Base
-Spinach
-Arichoke
-Fresh Mushroom Blend
-Roma Tomatos
-Ricotta Cheese
-Grilled Chicken

The reason no one is answering is because it's just too hard to choose.
I'd have to say at any given time, my FAVORITE pizza is the one I'm just getting ready to eat!

Well, I cant pick a favorite, but I almost always order the same pizza when Im trying out a new place. I go with a cheese and sausage. This allows me to taste the cheese they are using and also determine if they make their own sausage or use the rabbit pellet stuff. Otherwise Ill go with a Marguerite style.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

Yeah, I think John articulated it well ... it's not an easy question to answer because part of the appeal of pizza is its variety. In general, I prefer Neapolitan/New York style, and my "benchmark" pie is quite a bit like John's - sausage, cheese ... and add some green peppers and onions, please, both because they're classic companions with Italian sausage and also so I can have a look at how seriously the pizzeria takes its veggies. A margherita is another good way to judge - sometimes how they handle a very simple pie is as revealing as what they do with a piled-high pie.

I think my favorite ALL-TIME, as far as ingredients go, is: thin crust, basil pesto, gorgonzola, and then fresh greens and balsamic on top after it has cooked. Otherwise known as the "Genoa" at Allo Spiedo. Light, but full of flavor, and super easy to make on a whim. :D

Right on, I guess after 5 years of making (and consequently eating) pizzas, I nailed down what I look for in my usual pie. That being said, I branch out a lot as well. I do, like most of you I'm betting, have different choices for each type of dough available. I think I don't pick sausage primarily because a bunch of pizza places, especially chains, have the dreaded pellet kind. And if the toppings are sparse and value-oriented, usually the dough, cheese, and sauce follow suit.

Thin whole wheat crust, white sauce, clams, mussels, shrimp, crab. Pure heaven!

They cringe when we go in Richo's/Sportstime because I have a litany of toppings that I order on my pizza. The server usually just sits down to take the order! My ingredients are (on the thin crust):
Onions
Green olives
Artichoke hearts
Spinach
Sun Dried tomatoes
Mushrooms
Kalamatas
Italian sausage
Extra roasted garlic

This encompasses every ingredient that I love and I do love this pizza! Also, I very much love Coal's pizza but they are totally different styles. No one can beat the elegant simplicity of your flavorful toppings with the best crust in the world!

I bet that ends up being an expensive pizza!

Either just Sausage and Onions or whatever the version of Deluxe is at any particular pizzeria. That can vary greatly from place to place to either include olives, ham, or bacon

With the number of toppings on that pie, I think Carol is an excellent candidate for the next Epic Meal Time: pizza edition. I'm assuming you guys have seen the youtube phenomenon that is Epic Meal Time. Check out Chili Four Loco, TurBaconEpic, Meatball Deathstar, and Fast Food Lasagna.

On a side note, I would love to know whats on the StevieP pie haha.

"I bet that ends up being an expensive pizza!"

It is actually very reasonable. Richo's/Sportstime has one price for a pizza with 5-10 toppings. Mine comes in at 9!!! Really is a bargain....
