Alaskan King Crab

by TanyaD » Thu Aug 02, 2007 9:20 am

I recently acquired some Alaskan king crab legs (on sale over half off at Kroger!!), and am not entirely sure how to prepare them. I don't want anything that will mask the natural crab flavor--do I just boil it like you do regular crab legs? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My brother just steams them with some lemon and a half inch of water. This seems to work for him.

yeah steam them, trying not to get them wet.

Serve with Lemon and possibly drawn butter.

Usually NOT goes to cocktail sauce but you won't hurt my feelings if you DO.

Rack?

by TanyaD » Fri Aug 03, 2007 8:34 am

Do you put a rack of some sorts on the bottom of the pot (I was going to use my Dutch oven)?

I will definitely NOT be using cocktail sauce (shudder)! :)

Any thing that will take heat but not let them get wet.
Wet will work fine to cook them but it erodes flavor AND makes the shell soggy and hard to crack.

I watch that show all the time, it's great. Could you imagine doing that job in those 30 degree temps?

Make those little buggers seem a bargain at twice the price..(shudders).
Well or close to that maybe or not......ahem.
