July 27 Offline at Toki's New Restaurant!

by GaryF » Sat Jun 27, 2009 11:55 pm

I spoke with Toki from Maido tonight and she said she was taking over the old Karma Cafe. Her new venture will be called The Dragon King's Daughter. She hopes to be open in a few weeks time. The focus sounds like presenting familiar Japanese tastes in new formats like sashimi pizza etc. It sounds intriguing and delicious. She is planning to be open all day from 11AM till closing. Who wants to meet me for lunch on opening day?

Yay! Because Toki is a friend of my mother's, I've been sitting on this information wanting to blow the top off SO bad (...welllll... I may have whispered it to Gayle and one or two others at the last offline - information like this makes a person very popular). This is no doubt some of the coolest news this year.

Gary, I'd LOVE to meet you on opening day if schedules allow.

But please, Toki, will you give us an idea of what on earth sashimi pizza is?

Oh, Jackie, that would be wonderful. I hope it won't happen on one of the three days I will be out of town next month.

I'm definitely interested in meeting you all for lunch. Just let me know when the opening day is finalized.

Just returned from my momma's and we got to talking about this. She whipped out the article that was published in the CJ on Saturday (but of course I directed her attention here). Many congrats to Toki! The chosen name is great. Toki's father is a restaurant owner in Japan (I think) and from what I understand, he is very talented and traditional. If I'm misrepresenting here, Toki, please stand to correct me. Obviously my mother has told me a bit, but I don't want to get my facts confused. I (and everyone on LHB) would love to hear it from you directly. But from what I see, this is an uprise to release your own creative style. My mom said that when they announced it at the community center (SGI - Soka Gakai International ~ mom's a buddhist), people cheered. Toki is the jam.

I can't wait to eat there with Gary, Gayle, and Paul. Who else wants to go???

So apparently she had a friends and family reception today, and I'm bummed that I couldn't be my mom's date because I had other plans. But I spoke to her earlier to get the word, and she was tickled to meet Marsha and Gary (evidently they ate at the same table - small world)! I'm told that Toki's opening to the public next Monday, the 20th of July. I'd love to participate in an offline if you all would like to pick a date. I can do an opening day lunch if that's preferred, but it might be better to wait. Whatever the popular vote is.
