All is not totally lost. Myself and the group I'm going to Pittsburgh with will be chowing down at Primanti's about the same time y'all will be at Red Pepper. We went to the original location 2 years ago and will return again. http://www.primantibrothers.com/

Those are some great looking sandwich's, Doogy. Is that Iron City Beer, the old "Red Eye", in some new fangled packaging?

OK, looks like Friday Nov 7. Pick a time, someone, or should we plan on after the rush?

Here's an idea ... why don't Mary and I go over there in the next day or two and chat them up, determine what's possible and what they advise in terms of time?

Do we have even a ballpark on the size of the group?

As I said earlier, count me in for any date except November 1, which I believe we have already eliminated.

I am reasonably certain that Richard and I can make it.

I think Mike and I can make it as well, we will be a little stressed (we have a large annual party the next day) but perhaps it's good that we get out for a bit. I need to check with him and arrange for a sitter but we might be able to join you - I hope!

I would absolutely love to attend if the offline is on a Sunday or Monday. Other evenings I'm most often working. The banquet sounds fascinating... But as long as there is pan-fried tofu, I am always happy at Red Pepper. I haven't been there in a while and I'm beginning to experience withdrawal...

I assume we are still talking about dinner. Sandy and I would be there.

If talking about lunch, I will be there.

My wife and I will be there whatever the day. We ate there last night and after we paid the check the woman who runs the place told us to hang on for a minute; she wanted to fix us a treat for dessert. She made us each a pastry that tasted remarkably like a warm fig newton sprinkled with sugar; very good. She said it was a red bean paste.

Okay, Mary and I went over to Red Pepper today, had a GREAT lunch (the pan-fried tofu and a daily special of baby bok choy stir-fried with a LOT of garlic), and talked to Yuan Hua, the hostess.

She's got us all set up for an authentic Chinese banquet on Friday, Nov. 7. To avoid problems with the Friday crowd, she suggests we gather between 7:30 and 8, enjoy drinks in the bar, then settle down to our seats in the private room at 8 p.m.

Here are the specifics:

* Chef Huang will create a multi-course, authentic banquet involving numerous courses including lobster. He'll go out of his way to make it an exciting authentic Sichuan banquet with special ingredients and plate decoration.

* Price per person will be $30, exclusive of tax, tip and alcoholic beverges (they have beer and wine, no liquor).

* Time and place as above: 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, but it's okay to come in early and hang out in the bar or the party room.

* We need to get at least 18 people together to use the party room, and we'll have to cap attendance at 24.

* We need firm commitments by Tuesday, Nov. 2 (Election Day!) so we can confirm the number and give them time to do all the preparations.

Later today or tomorrow, I'll post this as a sticky in all sections if we need help in drumming up a crowd.

Okay, this isn't getting much/any response at the end of this long thread, and we need a firm guest list by Tuesday, so I'll post it as a "global sticky," whatever that is. :)
