Let's go with the tried, true and tested system used in Iron Chef Japanese!

Taste: 10
Presentation: 5
Originality: 5
MAxIMUM: 20 from each judge, or 60 overall.

I watch the Iron Chef sometimes. I believe that scoring system is from Iron Chef AMERICA, not Japanese.

Sounds like a good time was had by all. Wish I had been able to make it.

Actually, Steve, I pulled that from the (English-language) version of the Iron Chef Japan website. I guess they could have made a mistake, but ... <shrug>

I watch both on TIVO. Makes about a half hour show out of the hour. The Japanese version may have that scoring system, but it shows the total score (20 per judge) and doesn't break it down. But there is always four judges making a total of 80 possible. The Japanese versions is interesting because of the very different ingredients often used.

The American version has three judges that equal possible 60 points and they break it down in categories like you did. I think that is the best way.

Both of course more fun than instructive. Very minor quibble.

The pictures were great.

C'mon! I dressed as the BLT ninja, and there's only pictures of the FOOD?

Plenty more photos where those came from! :D Stay tuned ... I can't dump all this stuff out at once, people would be calling for the silver bucket!

TAG! I'm it! I'm looking forward to defending 'the hotbyte cup' next time the pros compete. Either way, count me in for the next event (schedule willing, of course.)

Those tomatoes are stellar! I felt like I was stealing while I was walking to my car with them.

I got so wrapped up in meeting and everyone that I forgot to taste both the sorbet and any other sides. I won't be making that mistake next time... :?

I wouldn't mind organizing a cocktail tasting offline, sometime, either. That seems like it would be fun! I'll post a recent one in the kitchen forum.

That was a blast, did anybody else almost stroke out, or was that just me? A little too much taste as you go methinks, hehe.

I just awoke from my bacon induced coma and WOW is the only superlative I am able to muster. Every chef creation was outstanding and it was a true pleasure to get to meet and speak with you all. Thanks, David for the space and a special thank you to John for the outstanding 'maters. Looking forward to the next one.

A cocktail tasting offline....oh MAN are you playing my tune! Can I judge? Maybe we can get Adam Sager back into town as a special "guest judge?" 8) Let me know - I will be happy to help organize...or judge....

Thanks to all the wonderful BLT-meisters and the other great cooks for a wonderful evening!

Stephen,
I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one thinking that. :D Man, it was good, but I think my system is still recovering from cholestrol shock..
I recovered nicely this evening by gorging on heirloom tomatoes (Beaucoup thanks to the Hagans!)

I wasn't really thinking of doing an actual throwdown (but I'm game,) just a tasting. Maybe a pot- luck kinda thing, or not. Perhaps something structured, or not. What about throwing in a side- by side tasting of wine or beer, or not. Whatever everybody wants to do...

Deb - I guess you didn't get the memo that says craft-brewed beer totally dissolves any cholesterol you eat while you are drinking. So you should be good to go. I'm living proof.

Once again I would like to thank Dave for gracoiusly hosting this event.

I enjoyed seeing everyone and meeting a few more Forumites. It's nice to put faces to names...

Colleen and I both had a great time and I feel that everyone was a winner.
