Robert, I'm really trying to reach out to you here. Did you read my previous post at all? Can you reply to it and not veer off on a tangent?

Robert, I KNOW you really are not like the way you come off in writing. If Robin was so anti-chain, he never would have used my reviews of several chain restaurants in LEO, or done reviews of chains himself. We all have the right to express ourselves, but you go "off the rails" in your writing style more than most. Robin does, and always will, prefer the local independent restaurants. You appear to prefer the chains with several exceptions - like Jucy's, a great independent. OK, fine. So you have some points of agreement. Maybe if you couch some of your wrtings "in my opinion" rather than presenting them as undisputable facts - no offense, but not all of them are facts (except your excellent weather skills!), they are your OPINION. In my opinion, you have offered some excellent insights here, but you put it in such a confrontational style, the point is lost. If we all read and think before we hit that submit button, maybe we would not have some of the 6 page rants that are rolling on here.

Just my humble opinion, cheer or jeer, just please be civil about it!! :)

Sorry you feel that way...But that is my writing style...such as Red Robin to create 100 new jobs...Seems clear to me. Then the rosters come out and attack it....saying all that is wrong with that....IMO...

Getting back to the "Topic"....It's close to the time to have this thing if everyone is still interested!

I'm still voting for mid to late August....

As long as Dave is still willing to host this showdown...

I'll throw my hat in the ring as a contestant, just to taste your sammiches!

In my house, BLT's are made with copious amounts of Fisher's Mellwood bacon, just like my ma and hers before her. I won't be bringing my late- night snack, though...

I'll do something conceptual and untried- a v1.0, so to speak. All in my head until that day.

I expect to lose, but I do enjoy a friendly competition!

I look forward to meeting everyone there.

I must admit I haven't reviewed all parts of this "multi" thread, but do you have to compete or judge to attend this challenge?

Gauntlet in hand.............

Marsha and I were discussing the Throwdown while @ NABC Saturday. Right now there are no real rules. We do not have a kitchen here, so all food will need to be preped off-site and assembled here.

I suggest that all contenders should come up with the rules or guidelines soon.

I'll tip my hand...

Mine will be a cheeky play on the stories regarding the origins of both the sandwich and sushi. Supposedly, the sandwich (sushi) was invented when the Earl of Sandwich (a famous Daimyo) demanded that their chefs prepare food that may be eaten with one hand, so that they may play cards with the other...

I find it fascinating that two chefs, on opposite sides of the world, at about the same point in history, are given the exact same culinary challenge- and they come up with two completely different ideas that evolve into two separate traditions. To put it another way... what is a sushi bar, but a Japanese deli?

I was planning on bringing 3 starches to see what is possible:

Sushi Rice (I'm confident this will work)
Brioche (maybe?)
Ciabatta (perhaps?)

I'll try to use duck fat to bind the tail of the bread rolls and a brulee torch for the toasting.

This is my proposal for judging this contest...

On a 1 to 10 scale I feel these are the most important requirements..

1.Presentation

2.Flavor

3.Uniqueness(is this really a word?)

4.Lets get together and eat some Bacon and then go to a Bat's game!

Assuming that everyone involved will have to pretty much prepare their entry off-site...

This could be a good time!
