chop shop good hair cuts

by John Hagan » Tue Apr 06, 2010 7:48 am

I just wanted to give some props to the guys at Derby City Chop Shop. I went in for my quarterly head shearing and a shave yesterday. Nice guys, very clean shop, old school tunes coming out of a vintage juke box and shaves with a straight razor. Its pretty hard to find anybody who does a straight razor shave anymore. Its nice to see guys my age keeping up an old tradition. Its all quite relaxing until you get that 1940's era aftershave blast. That stuff really wakes you back up. Very detailed hair cut. So much so I felt guilty putting my hat on after I left. Went hatless for the rest of the day.
Anyway, sorry if this is old news. Im just unhip that way.
Current Prices:

Haircuts - $15
Straight Razor Shaves - $15

Farris Barber Shop
8029 New La Grange Rd
Louisville, KY 40222-4797
(502) 425-4600

Father and Son shop

Not an old-school vibe, but still using old-school straight razors for shaves.

$12 haircuts

Never had a shave, so I'm not sure of the price.

Another contender, same neighborhood as Chop Shop:

The Place to Go Hair Styling
1607 Bardstown Road (just south of Bonnycastle)
(502) 452-6897

Learned about them on the forum, and I understand they do a lot of local chefs, servers and restaurant people. Very decent scissor cuts and definitely affordable at $12,

Chop Shop is a great place. Brandon, who cuts my hair, tends to re-check every detail, always takes his time and does a great job. The Place to Go, on the other hand, does a mediocre haircut in under five minutes, and the woman who cut my hair several times refuses to listen to instructions, apparently finding it offensive that anyone would dare to tell her how to do her job. Chop Shop is a terrific place, and they deserve your business; the second is definitely NOT the place to go.
