Countertop Refinishing

by Jenny H » Tue Mar 30, 2010 1:48 pm

Does anyone know of a company here in town that does countertop refinishing? It is a process where they come in and basically spray layers of coating to change the color of the counters. We did this at our house in Texas and now are interested here. Thanks!

You did not specify what kind of counter top you are talking about. I would suggest calling Mees Tile Co here in Louisville. It is old and reputable company. They install and service tile, granite, etc counter tops. However if the top is a laminate such as Formica, it can be a do it yourself project.

Clean well with something like TSP. Sand with a moderate sandpaper 100 or so to roughen the surface. Prime with a shellac based primer (BIN is the brand I am familiar with). Finish with a two part epoxy. Let sit a week and NEVER cut on it without a board. It is time consuming but not difficult.

You can also catch Steve on Saturday mornings while he's doing his home improvement radio show. :)

And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.
