Trail Rides in Prospect area

by Sherrie G » Wed Mar 24, 2010 1:02 pm

I recently went on my first horse & trail ride. But I was in Utah at the time. Anyone know someplace in the Prospect area where I can do the same? I've been able to find riding lessons (which I'm not interested in at this time) but trail riding in this area has eluded my google searches.

Lake McNeely has a barn where you can "rent" a horse ( at least it did last year). Iroquois also has a barn that has previously allowed people hourly rentals. Most everyone that I know that teaches won't allow you to go out w/ out an instructor w/ you. Mint Springs (2281866) off Chamberlain has some very nice instructors that may take you on a trail ride, as a "lesson". When I taught I wouldn't allow anyone to go on a ride outside the ring w/ out me, and most of the horse people around feel the same way. Please don't take it personally, but from a liability stand point, and not knowing someone's skill level, they aren't going to let someone they don't know take their horses out.
In L'sprit ( Lagrange) there is a sign off 53 advertising trail rides, (closer to 42), but I dont' know the barn name.
Hope this helps a little bit.

Thanks for the info, ladies! It's much appreciated. I sent an e-mail off to the folks at Little Big Horse Trails last week and hope to hear back from them soon (or I'll be following up with a phone call).

And Paula, that is really good information. I was looking for owner-led rides (for novices - either group or solo) but didn't think about the fact that I might be able to go on a trail ride as a "lesson".

Thanks again!
