As of this morning, I'm only seeing non-local ads on the site: Sprint, Hotwire, Disney Princess....

Carla, where are you seeing the Creation Gardens ad? I know the site needs to pay for itself but I miss my local ads.

Deb

Don't panick, folks! :D Mary is fooling around with a feature on our ad system that lets major national agencies "bid" for space, and she's doing it on a weekend to stay out of the forum's busiest hours.

She's trying to set it so it won't let in any sleazy ads; and we absolutely will NOT let the national ads have priority over space paid for by locals. It's just that we've got so much excess space, and such narrow margins, that much like a local restaurant or local shop or local newspaper  we're looking to make a few farthings where we can. But don't worry, the local ads won't go away ... and we're always happy to talk to indie restaurants and food-service suppliers about the best, most efficient way to reach a sizable all-foodie audience in Louisville. :)

I agree with Carla about the Creation Gardens ad- very nice.
Looks like Hotbytes is growing up.
As long as the local ads have priority I'm all for making a bit of coin.

Amy, it's just an experiment! Did you read what I said to Deb? Mary is just fooling around with it this morning. We are NOT going to keep anything that's not appropriate. I hope you won't make a decision to take off on the basis of something we're just playing with on a quiet Saturday. :(

Also remember, the more local businesses who join us, the less we need to look at alternatives to keep this operational functional for us all.

Good lord! Don't worry, folks, we are NOT going to do this if it sends out ads like that. We thought we had it under control from this end, but we're not seeing anything as bad as that, Kimberly. Earlier, there were a couple of kind of suggestive links to "adult" sites, but nothing even close to the want ads in the back of the LEO.

Again, don't worry, and please don't leave. Mary begged me to let her continue tweaking it through tomorrow, but if we can't get the bad stuff under control by then, we'll give it up. Thing is, if we can skim off some excess ad bucks from people like AT&T and Pier One and PNC Bank and Kodak, I'll take it to help us keep the books in the black. But I'm well aware that sleazy ads would make US look sleazy, and there's no benefit in that.

Oh it isnt that big of a deal! The gun one, I think, was for an on line game. Hooters sort of suprised me, but nothing to jump ship over though, I appreciate the need to generate some fundage.
