Reliable Mechanic Needed

by Kim H » Wed Mar 07, 2007 8:40 pm

I am looking for a reliable and reasonable mechanic. Specifically, I'm having trouble with my transmission missing, and possibly a CV boot. I drive a 2000 Buick Le Sabre - last time I had a mechanic I liked was St. Mathews Imports when I drove a Honda. Any help would be appreciated!

Kim,

I highly recommend Prospect Chevron on U.S. 42 just past the Oldham/Jefferson County line. They can handle just about anything and are very reasonably priced. They have managed to keep our 11 year old Acura in great shape. 164,000 miles and counting.

(I am not related nor have any financial stake in Prospect Chevron :) )

Southside Automotive off National Turnpike near the Snyder. They have always been very good to me and very affordable. A friend of the owner referred me to them and I will never go to anyone else even though their location is not convenient to me. I'm a single mom (so cars and money are two things I'm not real familiar with, lol!) but I am very comfortable dealing with them.

Tony at Crescent Hill Imports (on Cannons Lane just off Frankfort) used to do a great job taking care of our ancient Toyota Corolla and helped us get 13 years and 150,000 miles out of it before the body rusted through. We finally traded it in because it was starting to look embarrassing, but it still ran great, and his prices were very fair.

I don't know whether the "Imports" in the company name means he only works on imports, but if it's convenient to you, you could certainly ask.

I'll throw one more name on the pile. I would trust these guys with my life -- only people my husband and his family will use:

Probilt Automotive
4106 Preston Hwy
Louisville, KY 40213
(502) 363-2327

They're honest and their rates are very reasonable. If they can't help you, they'll tell you who can.

I really like Volksdoktor; they specialize in VW, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, and Mazda, but I'm sure they could either take care of you or point you in the right direction. I've had great success both with them and with the people they've recommended to me for various services they don't handle.

Springdale and St. Matthews Imports are both very good.
