I'm joining a Karate class w/ a friend -anyone else want to?

by Nimbus Couzin » Fri Feb 12, 2010 1:41 am

Subject says it all....

I talked a buddy of mine into joining a Karate school my kiddo has been attending for the past three plus years. They're top notch. My buddy and I are both "over-the-hill" 43 years old or so, so you don't need to be young or in peak physical condition.

The school offers some kind of awesome free trial plan, like two weeks or a month free, just to try it out, so if there is any interest out there, let me know. I personally feel martial arts are something everyone should do - whether just for self defense, or for exercise and physical conditioning, or as a competitive sport, or for mental fitness.

Let me know!

Disclaimer: I have no financial interests, other than being a satisfied customer. For videos of my kiddo sparring, go to youtube and search for "Leone Couzin" He's been going since he was three, and he's seven now, and loves it more than ever....

I joined a ty kwon do class years ago. It put me in fantastic physical shape but I had to drop out. I really abhorred the idea of hitting anyone during the sparring matches. I kept apologizing first. ("I'm really sorry but..(smack). You know I'm not really upset but...(smack)") My sparring partners quickly learned of my apprehension and learned to hit as soon as I opened my mouth. They usually beat the holy crap out of me! My instructor - a little korean that could barely speak english- kept saying, "NO TALK! JUST HIT!"

I took some martial arts training years ago, and it is a GREAT physical fitness regimen...like swimming and tennis, you use all of your body...there are a couple of studios in the OC, and I've thought about getting back into it as a workout routine...

I can't wait until my little one is old enough. I bet with his sensory processing issues this would be great for him. Plus, he's built like a little football player..so he probably wouldn't knock over easily

And Carla, there is NO way you could get me to do that. I'm the biggest weenie and would HATE getting hit.

I have a 3rd degree black belt in Beer-Kann-Doo. They carry all the equipment needed at the Liquor Barn and training classes are given all over town.
