I'm getting married and need some ideas...

by Jessica Devine » Tue Jan 19, 2010 8:40 am

Good morning. Doug and I became engaged last week and have decided to get married this summer rather than wait a year and a half since I'm a teacher. I've got my dress under control--now I just need a venue. I'm interested in holding my ceremony and reception at the same venue but maybe in different areas of the place. I will have around 150 people (possibly less) and would like a sit down dinner/buffet and dancing. We are looking at a Friday or Saturday in mid to late June or early to mid July. My parents would prefer paying under $1000 for the venue itself, but some extras like tables included, etc. would be helpful. Does anyone have any ideas?

Mellwood Art Center - It may be over $1,000 for the venue but it does include table, chairs and a small sound system, plus the layout has a small 'dance floor' area.

Congratulations!

How about the Peterson-Dumesnil House?

Congrat's :D :D :D May I suggest The Women's Club of Louisville. It should suit your needs perfectly. I had my wedding reception there and I'm catering a wedding for a friend there in May. I think to have the whole place upstairs to eat, downstairs to party is $1200 on a Saturday and 1/2 that on a Friday and it's pretty nice. You'll have to call about availability. Here's a link....

Most of those weekends fill up about a year in advance so if you find a place you like and can afford you better book it quickly! Also depending on what kind of food your looking to do and I might be able to cater it for you or recommend someone who can.

I went to a beautiful reception at Mellwood and I think it was quite affordable!

Yew Dell Gardens is gorgeous, but I'm afraid it runs a little more than $1,000 - more like $3,800. But you can look and sigh. Or maybe some rich relative will rent it for you!

My sister and her fiance are getting married this summer at the Sawyer Hayes Community Center in E. P. Tom Sawyer Park. It is very reasonable, and you can choose your caterer. The ceremony will be outside. It's on June 26th, so that date's booked already ;) Congrats, and hope you all can find a nice place soon!

Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions.

If you haven't yet posted, keep 'em coming!

Nunnlea won't work because the rooms are too small--it's beautiful, but the last wedding I attended there made it difficult for everyone to feel a part of the celebration.

The Women's Club of Louisville was actually my first call, but they won't let me use the memory garden for the ceremony and the woman told me it was too small for the amount of people I plan on inviting.

Mellwood is a possibility. My mom stopped by today and spoke to someone. It's in the running.

Gingerwoods is a possibility too. I've been in contact with them and may be going for a visit later this week.

The Peterson-Dumesnil house is too small, but I may look into it again because it's come up in conversation a lot.

What about River Bend Winery? I'm waiting on a reply to my email. Does anyone have any idea about the rate?

Someone mentioned The Junior League of Louisville, but I can't find any information about a building that they rent out. Does anyone have any inside info on that?

What about the Old Medical Building? My mom thinks it's a neat idea, but I couldn't find any pictures online.

Jessica,
The daughter of a friend had her wedding at Gardencourt on Alta Vista. The wedding itself was in the Rose Garden and the reception in the house, with access to the outside. It was really beautiful. Also, I think you mentioned dancing and there was a good size dance floor. I know they had their own caterer. Nice venue. Congratulations on your engagement!!!

Gardencourt is one of the most sought after wedding venues in town. I've heard that brides to be actually camp out to reserve thier dates when they make them available. I would be certain that this place is already booked
