It's not like I didn't know it Bill. The comments about Haiti shows the world would be a better place without him and his ignorance and what's so bad is that he has a vehicle to spread his ignorance...

You'd think he'd feel like a fool spewing that stuff. He really believes his own BS.

Yes he is...

I really don't know what he said about Haiti, but there is no question he is a pompous idiot.

Rush Limbaugh is a media personality who is savvy enough to know that such bombastic comments generate attention toward him and (he hopes) his radio show. I'm an occasional listener to his program (as well as other "conservative" radio pundits), because if I'm going to form an opinion, I want it to be based on what I know - not what some third party is telling me I should believe (we already have enough of that going around).

Face it, there are a LOT of people who gravitate to someone who (they feel) articulates their beliefs and opinions, and Limbaugh, et. al., provide that for a segment of our society. We watch the old newsreels from the last century showing Communist and Facist propagandists swaying the masses, and wonder how people could be so guilable; but what Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck - and even some on the Left - do isn't much different....it's just slicker.

I'm reminded of two films made some 20 years apart - "A Face In The Crowd" and "Network" - which deal which how mass media can be twisted to shape public opinion and behavior...watch those films and think about ACTUAL media and media personalities today. See much difference??

I agree with you on this John and I think you and I have had this conversation before re: Limbaugh. In addition to not liking the viewpoint he espouses, I find his arrogance intolerable. And I DO believe HE believes in his own "gift from godliness" and sense of imperialism. Else why would he come down so hard on drug abusers yet stumble around with his own set of utterly lame excuses when HE was found to be an abuser himself?
Naw, he's not so much smart, clever or media savvy as he is an a**hole I think.

I feel the same way. I'll listen in to talk radio now and again just to reiterate my thoughts on the current political state. As Lewis Black so eloquently put it.."The Republican Party is the party with bad ideas, The Democratic party is the party with no idea"

Naw, he's not so much smart, clever or media savvy as he is an a**hole I think.

I've read some material about Rush's background and early career; college dropout (who reportedly even failed a course in ballroom dancing), questionable draft status during Vietnam and in some respects the "black sheep" of a family that had produced successful attorneys and judges in Missouri. Apparently, he never found a center a life until he gravitated toward radio broadcasting, which - like him or not - he has a distinct talent.
Whether the arrogance and bombast is real or just his on-air persona is debatable...I've met people who worked with him years ago and claim that off-air he's about what you hear on his show, while others maintain that it's exaggerated (in part to aggrevate his critics).

Personally, I don't hate him, nor do I hang onto his every utterance...he's just another voice amidst a sea of voices and opinions. People need to have the objectivity and intellectual curiosity to chop through the underbrush and form their own ideas.
