Wine and Bourbon Dinner

by Ward Wilson » Fri Jan 15, 2010 3:14 pm

The local Alliance Francaise french school and culture group will have a fundraising dinner February 27 at Glassworks called "Wine Meets Bourbon in the Bluegrass." All LHB forumites and friends are most welcome. We will have wine and bourbon tastings, a formal dinner catered by Jarfi's, a glass-blowing demonstration, a live band and lots of fun. Come, bring your friends and enjoy a wonderful evening. You don't have to parlez francais, but si on veux, on peux.

Are there any French people that attend these events? My wife is French & would love to speak to any other French people in the area. I've been trying to talk her in to going to these events for some time.

But, of course! Oui, bien sur! :D
The Alliance is the place for French and French-speaking people to meet and talk. Our teachers are native French speakers from France, Morocco, Rwanda, etc. Besides the Wine and Bourbon dinner, we have a conversation group at Java Brewing on Frankfort Avenue the fourth Tuesday of each month (next one's week from tomorrow - 1/26) that would be a perfect way to meet some people since it's free, no reservations needed, and is all in French.
We also have a movie group (Saturday 1/23 we will watch Ne le dis à personne), a group will be attending the live showing of Carmen next month, a book group starting soon, cooking classes, Christmas carols in French, Bastille Day celebration, etc. Details are on our web site www.aflouisville.org or call the office at 502.897.9800.
Tell her bienvenue au club! And you are welcome to join us as well, whether you speak or want to speak French or not. Except for the Club de Conversation, non-French-speaking is fine.

Thanks for the information. I'll pass it on. I've been planning to start learning French so that I can speak to my wife's family (none of them speak English) when we visit. This sounds like a good opportunity.

Now that Valentine's is past, here's a reminder (and topic bump) about the dinner event "Wine Meets Bourbon in the Bluegrass" on Saturday, February 27, at Glassworks. We already have about 75 registered with plenty of room for more.

You can get tickets online at http://www.aflouisville.org/af_news.htm, or by writing to Alliance Française, 173 Sears Avenue, Suite LL079, Louisville, KY 40207, or call the office at 897-9800.

ALSO:
In April, we will host an Immersion Weekend that will include two nights at Laws Lodge at the Presbyterian Seminary, meals, wine, and instruction by two local French professors - only French will be spoken. Watch our web site for details.

Bon appetit!
