"America's Worst Cooks"

by Jessie H » Thu Jan 07, 2010 4:15 am

anyone seen this? it's a new reality show on food network. i've only seen the first episode so i can't say it'll be good for the season. so far, it's a riot. 24 horrible home cooks were nominated by their kids, signifigant others, roomates, etc to be on the show because they think that person is the worst cook in america. so the first challenge was for each person to take whatever ingredients they chose and cook what they felt was their best dish. one lady took a bunch of cans of different soups, heated them up all in one pot, and served this to the judges. another guy served them skewers with cooked chicken and raw mushrooms, onions and peppers. this on top of rice which the judge said resembled gravel. check this show out for a laugh.

I'm not a big fan of "Challenge" cooking shows...MOF I'm not even a small fan but I do have to admit this one was pretty damn funny in a "watch your neighbor publicly humiliate themselves" kinda way. These freaking people were cluuuuuue-less. We're talking "can't boil water" kinda cooks here. I'll probably check it out again.

Makes you wonder if they're REAAALLY that bad, or just looking for their 15 minutes. My husband was like, "Nobody can actually be THAT bad of a cook."

Yeah, I believe they can. I was married to a man that at 26 years old couldn't make a grilled cheese sandwich.

My 41 yr old husband just learned to make grilled cheese and fry an egg this year. I'm not taking the blame for this one..I only got him 5 yrs ago. I'm blaming his Momma for this

My brother would only eat cheese & crackers & peanut butter & jelly sandwiches until he was about 23 because he didn't know how to make anything else. Actually, I think he did eventually learn to microwave bacon.

OK, it's official, I like this show.

I have to admit my aversion to all of the "challenge" shows on the FoodChallengeNetwork...most of which feature overweight, tattooed "chef's" who appear like they haven't washed their hair or shaved in a week or two...(and these are just the female Chef's).

This one is different (and after watching it, no I don't think they are faking it). Yes, it's slightly brutal but in a friendly, Prozac kinda way. Personally I'm rooting for the gay feller to win...He gets in front of the Chef's and is as nervous as a puppy who just peed on the carpet...but he's trying really hard. Actually all of the contestants are pretty cool...in a anxiety disorder kinda way.

Definitely worth at least one watch.

You must have (had?) my husband's long lost twin....

I have a friend that needs to be on that show, he's a riot on his own, but his kitchen experiments are hilarious. Yesterday he made a meatloaf and didn't have eggs, so he put in a CUP of OIL instead. Needless to say, it didn't come out as well as he intended...the meatloaf was floating when he got it out of the oven.

So far this is one of the better contest shows they've had on Food Network, I'm not sure who to root for yet. Some do seem to be faking (Jennifer), others are definite disasters in the kitchen.

My best friend almost burned her house down while making pop tarts once (we were in high school), and she still can't boil a pot of spaghetti without burning it. I saw an apron she needs...it says "Many people have eaten my cooking and gone on to live fairly normal lives!"

I did that the first time I cooked a frozen pizza. It was rather embarrassing. Pizza really seems to stick to cardboard.
