Ratio of Books read to Movies viewed?

I probably read 20 or 25 books for every movie watched, including the dreck on TV. How about you?

I don't read much a lot of books persay maybe 5 or 6 a year, but I do subscribe to about 10 magazines of which 4 are weekly and the woeful C-J and I usually read them all cover to cover. We don't really go to the movies much either; Maybe once a month or so. We do get alot of movies from Netfix, maybe 10 a month!

Probably 10 books for every movie, and like Dan a lot of magazines.

Mine close to infinity. I haven't been in a movie theater in close to ten years, and only rarely turn on the screen if I'm on a ten hour flight. Books - yes!

Lots of movies either from the library, Netflicks and maybe 25% in the theater viewing. Perhaps 6 or 7 books to every 1 movie. I was seriously considering dropping cable because I never see anything there that I can't get on line. Unfortunately, Insight doesn't offer their high speed connection by itself.

My wife & I watch about 2 or 3 movies per week on average. We read about 2 books each per month. We would both like to read more but we're not home on many evenings & when we're home together we tend to cook everything from scratch, which is time-consuming & it's easier to watch a movie & eat dinner than it is to read & eat dinner. We both tend to read in bed.

Unfortunately, Insight doesn't offer their high speed connection by itself.

I've always heard the same thing but I called last week, explained to them that we never watch cable television & don't want to pay for it & they came out & shut it off. My payment has been reduced to $40/month & would only be $30/month if I went with 10.0 instead of 20.0. That's $40/month than I was paying previously.

Good to know. Thanks for the info!

My mom is a filmmaker, so I grew up with too many movies (plus I did acting). I even made some films myself.

Then, I rebelled, and watched virtually no movies for about fifteen years. But I read serious literature. Daily.

Now, I watch an occasional movie, barely read books, and watch a few cable shows on the computer (Dexter, Curb Your Enthusiasm). I am a news junkie, and read lots of essays online.

Hard to put out a ratio. I bet the pendulum swings back to books someday.

Boy, that's a tough question. Mary and I both read a lot, and having the Crescent Hill branch library nearby (with the LFPL's Website making it easy to order any book in the system and have it delivered to Crescent Hill). Between us we usually have 10 or 12 books out at any given time (some of which go back unread or incompletely read if they don't pan out). Almost entirely fiction for her. About half-and-half for me. We mostly use the library in preference to bookstores (sorry, locals), but since I discovered that the FREE iPhone iKindle applet is almost as easy to read as the full-size $300 Kindle, I've been buying more $9.99 Kindle books than I really need. All non-fiction, so far.

Movies? Maybe one or two Netflix a week, and trips to Baxter or Tinseltown maybe a half-dozen times a year, usually to catch a really interesting new film that either seems like it would be great on the big screen or that's too interesting to wait for the DVD.

I'm not sure I could pull it down to a numerical ratio, but I'd say heavy consumption of books and lighter consumption of movies, but we enjoy both.

It would be easy to say I read more than I watch, but that would pretty much be an outright lie. According to Netflix I have 4178 rated movies. I generally watch a movie a night if not pulling up some netflix through the PS3 lately. I did make a resolution at work instead of paying attention to the tv during lunch I would read. Today was the first day and it was a success.
