New Year's Eve

by Carolyne Davis » Sun Dec 27, 2009 9:04 pm

Any suggestions what someone alone who is 50ish can do that's fun and safe and not far from downtown on New Year's?? 4th St is a little young and I can't find anything that sounds interesting. Don't want to drive too far.....

I think the Galt House and Seelbach are both having parties.

Heather,
Thanks, but I'm 53 not 73 and certainly not desperate enough for that!!! LOL!!!
I try to only go to JP if a really good band is playing....that clientele has always been, ummm, shall we say different??
The Seelbach and Galt House both sounded expensive and boring.....ah well, thanks tho.
I'm sure something will come up!

Thanks for the update, sorry about the suggestion. I have never been there, but was told that it was more for 50's and up as opposed to 30's and up.

That's hilarious, 53 and too young for Jim Porters!

Actually I've been there a few times and see people from just over 21 to in a wheel chair with a oxygen tank, pretty good entertainment actually!!

LEO Weekly published a good list of New Year's Eve events (and great food, wine and beer writers!)

Agree with Brian. I've played a lot of gigs there over the years and you're likely to see a bit of everything you can image.

I guess I should have actually worded that a bit differently! No offense to Heather at all! My recent no more BF was a musician and we have many mutual musician friends and would occasionally go to hear a friend's band (even on a few occasions the BF's band would play there). Everyone is asolutely right, there are all ages and (please don't take this wrong, I really am not a snob) but they all seem to be there for the explicit purpose of picking up someone to take home. The really scary (and sort of sad) thing is that the ones my age and older have been picking up the same people for the last 30 years!!!! If I went to Jim Porter's on New Year's Eve, OMG! That's got to be the epitomy of desperate. (No offense to those who like this type of thing)I just want to go out and have a small bit of fun with interesting people who aren't all young enough to be my kids! I was also aiming for something close to downtown as I don't want to be driving home after a few cocktails from too far away. I was kinda wondering about the event at the Vernon Club....it's being sponsored by WFPK???? I dunno...

Well, now you're talking about a different issue! I'll refrain from commenting about this!

Hey, that's exactly what we're doing except for the part about the Eiffel Tower (unless we stream it online). We're going to try & make it to Paris for the holidays in 2010.

We kinda stumbled into this place one night when we first moved here and actually had a pretty good time. The bands were O.K. and the people watching was top notch...First time I ever saw a mother/daughter team trying to take the same guy home...at the same time. 8)
