"Death Storm" Approaches. BE SAFE!!

by Bill P » Fri Dec 18, 2009 8:54 am

The NWS has issued a "Special" Bulletin that Metro Louisville area may receive up to an inch of snow between Friday evening and Saturday night. Yes, One Whole Inch!!! Please, please, everyone be very safe. Immediately (I mean right now) head to the grocery store and buy up every consumable, rent 32 movies, gas up all your vehicles, stock up on batteries and candles and keep your cell phone fully charged just in case you need to be rescued.. Be tough, courageous and you may just survive.

We apparently all crave french toast when we hear snow is approaching, as that is the only explanation I can come up with for the fact that everyone buys up all the milk, eggs, and bread.

I grew up in Chicago, learned how to drive a stick shift in a blizzard during rush hour (true story - I learned fast), and snow doesn't bother me at all.

But ice - which Louisville seems to get plenty of - can be treacherous and deadly for even the best of drivers. So go slow if it looks icy, and don't slam on your brakes!

Happy winter-time (almost!)....

I'm not afraid of driving in snow...I'm afraid of driving in snow with thousands of people who are panicking about snow. It makes for a scary situation. My husband is from Wyoming. The panic amuses him.

I used to think that the local news channels owned stock in Kroger :)

A couple of years ago, my son (now 29) moved to Bangor, Maine. The first winter storm that went through, he suggested to his girlfriend that maybe they should go to the store to stock up on a few essentials. Her response was, "Why?" They got about 24" of snow that night. At daybreak, the roads were plowed, the buses were running, the stores were open. He was stunned.

Becky asked me the other day "so what's the plan if we get a big snow". To which I replied "grab a couple of lawn chairs, a sack of sandwiches, a Thermos of coffee and go park our butts at the busiest intersection we can find because this is one show I don't want to miss".

Ya'll are some crazy drivers...

Pretty rough "Death Storm," no?

(Although I was out driving last night in the rain just after rush hour. Had to go from the Highlands to 65 via Eastern, then 65 to 265 to Billtown Rd. And then back. The highway driving wasn't that much fun. Pretty nasty - people driving badly, braking randomly, etc. But survived)
