Building site on 329

by Carla G » Sun Dec 06, 2009 9:43 am

Does anyone know what is going up at the building site on 329 in Crestwood nest to Madison Park condos? Originally it was suppose to be a Kroger. Is that still the case? Most of the work has been dormant until recently when it looks as if construction has resumed. I see no signs up anywhere indicating what businesses will be there. :?:

I'm curious myself Carla. It would be nice if it was a Krogers...I'm not too impressed with the one in La Grange.

The building so far looks almost like a Target. And I agree about the Kroger on 146. The people are nice but the produce sept there is awful.

Im 99% sure because the company I work for does a lot of business with Kroger. I am in several of them a day so I have heard from a few managers. They are also going to build a new "super" Kroger in Shelbyville near the current location. They are similar to a Wal-Mart as you can buy furniture, electronics, ect. Although with the recent news of their downturn in business it may be on hold.

Maybe they should just try and improve the Kroger in Shelbyville. I live in Simpsonville so it's about equal distance to go to Shelbyville or Lou to shop. I've been to the one in Shelby and it was terrible. Service was awful..produce wasn't great..hard to find things. I'll stick to my Middletown Kroger!

I've also heard that a Kroger was due in Crestwood, so it's likely that is the site...too bad, in a way -- I've long been a fan of the Crestwood Supermarket, and would be concerned the Big K will just shut them down...BUT, so far LaGrange manages to support THREE groceries, so we'll see....

Becky hear a rumor at her hair salon that this Kroger project had been canceled....Something about Kroger wasn't happy with all the development that had taken place in front of their potential site. I haven't been out this way since any digging started, so I don't know if this is fact or just a small town rumor mill at work.

Are you talking about the former IGA??? I lived in Crestwood when I was in gradeschool and IGA was our "go to" but I don't make it out there very often anymore, so I don't what's become of it. We always pronounced it "igga".

They've cleaned it up quite a bit and it's now owned by a company out of Tennessee I believe. They've kept most of their previous crew I understand. Prices are more in line now with some of their competitors but they have, on occation, some fairly good sales.

I think this was true originally. The construction site was started almost 4 years ago then suddenly stopped dead in its tracks. There is continued work being done again now. That's why I was wondering if it was still going to be a Kroger or if some other development is going in.

Just spoke with the work crew at the building site there on Hwy 329 while I was out on a snow walk. They tell me it's going to be a mini Baptist Hospital of about 17000 sq ft. Even have a MRI.
So , no new Kroger there.
