KFC 'colonel' dupes UN security

According to the article, "The incident last Thursday apparently was part of a publicity stunt by the fast food chain, which is seeking to promote its grilled alternative to its signature fried chicken."

I'm wondering both why and how they would attempt a stunt like this. Okay, it is kind of funny, but still.

Hmmm...sounds like an idea for an entire promo campaign....i.e., having the "Colonel" appear at unexpected places -- e.g., White House press conference....opening of the British Parliament...reviewing the May Day parade atop Lenin's Tomb....flying aboard a gunship in Afghanistan...."Colonel Zelig".

Looks like the KFC Colonel was better received at the United Nations than one Colonel Gaddafi...I'm tellin ya'...there is just something about those 11 herbs and spices that bring folks together...

I got the distinct impression that the ersatz Colonel was taking part in a tasting demo on the street, with the UN as background, and a security guy was so enchanted that he went out and invited the colonel to come in and meet some folks. This version may be either corporate or local spin, but that's the way I understood it.
