Covered Bridge Road & The Anchorage Trail

by Ray W. » Fri Oct 23, 2009 8:10 pm

October is my favorite month of the year in Kentucky so last Sunday I took one of my favorite scenic drives and walked one of my favorite trails to see the Fall Foliage...So here are a couple of gems that are right in our backyard...Minutes away from Downtown and The Highlands...

First up...Covered Bridge Road Loop...

US 42 East...Turn right on to State Highway 329 (Covered Bridge Road)...Didn't see any covered bridges but I did discover a couple of beautiful creek waterfalls as I glanced over to the right..Turn left on to State Highway 1694 North....Turn left on to US 42 West...Back to The Ville...Short and Sweet!...

Second...The Anchorage Trail...

Here is a rather amusing story about the Anchorage Trail that I wanted to share...I was walking the Anchorage Trail one Summer day this year and I saw this young woman pulling weeds along the trail...It was a hot and humid day and she was like the only person working there...So I happened to ask her..."Hey, where's the rest of your help?...It's pretty brutal out here today"...She told me that this trail was maintained by volunteers and that her Dad built this trail...So I said "Papa John?!...She just gave me a sheepish smile and said "That's my Dad"...I told her to "Keep up the great work!"

The Anchorage Trail

Sometimes you just gotta leave the city and burbs if only for an hour or two to see some horses, rolling hills and waterfalls...Plus you can truly appreciate how beautiful and alluring Kentucky can be this time of year...
