My brother-in-law has 2 recumbent bikes for sale. They are EZ-1 Super Cruzers from Easy Racers, Inc. One is red and one is blue. He paid $750 each for them, but will take offers. They have been very lightly ridden.
On a recumbent bike, you sit slightly reclined in a normal sitting position; back fully supported, arms relaxed, and neck straight. This makes for a comfortable ride, whether on a trip to the corner market or on a long tour. The heads-up seating position cuts wind resistance by 30%. With less air drag and the low seating position, you can travel faster and farther with less fatigue. The low center of gravity and longer wheel base give great stability, and when you are stopped, both feet easily reach the pavement.
Recumbent bikes are fun to ride. The long wheel base of these bikes offers a smooth ride. One of the best reasons to ride a recumbent is the comfortable seat (it's kind of like a lawn chair). Long tours are especially comfortable; you can ride all day and not have any sore spots. Also, since you're sitting in a more natural position, your neck doesn't get sore, and you can see more of your surroundings.
Recumbents are often a way that people with repetitive stress injuries to the wrist, neck, or back can continue to ride a bike-you don't have to put any weight on your hands as with handlebars on a regular bike, and neck or back problems usually don't affect recumbent riding.
Recumbents are just as fast as other bikes. This is due mostly to the better aerodynamics. The cyclist is seated lower (wind speed near the ground is usually less than found higher up), and the seating position on most recumbents provides a smaller wind target than most upright bikes. It's kind of like being in a low-slung sports car!
Recumbent bikes are safe. It is almost impossible to go "over the bars" and land on your head. Road rash is minimized. You just don't have very far to fall!
One of the best features of a recumbent is that you can see the scenery. You are looking around just like you were driving a car instead of with your head down as on a regular bike. They say that, among recumbent enthusiasts, there's something called the "recumbent grin", which you will see on the face of every new recumbent rider just seconds after mastering steering and balance (which is very easy). You bank into corners like a jet fighter pilot. You are riding low and fast like an Italian roadster on a mountain road. You can stop and rest still sitting on your bike.
I have photos of the bikes if anyone is interested. You can pm me or email me at elevro@msn.com and I can send you the pictures. Again, my brother-in-law is willing to accept the best offer for the bikes, which can be purchased together or separately.
