Fun stuff to do with kids?

by Madeline M » Tue Sep 29, 2009 3:38 pm

I have family coming to visit the week of Oct 8 and will be here through the weekend. My niece is 10 and my nephew is 6. What good things are there to do with kids that age? Preferably no more than a 30 minute ride and not too expensive. Any festivals/events going on the weekend of the 11th-13th?

The list so far:

Zoo
Lynn's Paradise Cafe
History Muesem?

The Falls of Ohio is fun. If the river is not up, you can go out and check out the fossils bed. Then down the street is Schimpf's. What kid doesn't like a candy shop? And the candy museum is neat too.

Oh yes, Schimpff's indeed!

http://www.schimpffs.com/

Lunch is served from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm M-F and 11:00 am - 2:00 pm Sat. and includes soup, sandwiches and homemade pies. Schimpff's old-fashioned soda fountain serves traditional malts, milk shakes, sundaes, and sodas, as well as old-time favorites, such as cherry and chocolate Cokes.

 I hit "Submit" to soon. My bad.

I've also used this web site http://louisville.about.com/b/2009/03/17/32-things-to-do-with-kids-in-louisville.htm when planning a week-end visit from my grandchildren.

Take them up here if the weather is decent. Neat Corn maze and they have their festival that weekend.

Hubers farm and orchard is fun and it's right across the river. Has a petting zoo, corn maze "you pick" stuff, wagon rides to the pumpkin fields. You can spend the entire day up there and eat at the restaurant.

Oct 10 and 11th ...and subsequent weekends, Louisville Zoo has the "world's largest Halloween Party".

The kids are the perfect age for this. louisvillezoo.org. Click on events and plenty of information about this event. Note that you can advance tickets at Meiers for a nice saving.

Hmmmmmm....Fun stuff to do with kids ? I've always thought wrapping them in Velcro and sticking them on the wall might be a "fun" thing to do.

(Sorry about that...I had the option of not replying...I just didn't have the ability not to)
