The best payback ever.

by Steve P » Wed Sep 23, 2009 1:32 am

OK...Nothing to do with the Ville but I just had to share.

So I'm out of town on business, I've been working all week and I'm beat. The hotel I'm staying in is just a freaking zoo over the weekend...in particular the room next to mine. Kids...little kids...lots of 'em...banging on the walls, running relay races in the hall, screaming like little maniacs both Friday night and all day and well into the night on Saturday...and the parents do nothing. So Saturday night just before the next desk clerk comes in I walk down to the front desk and put a "wake up" call into their room for 0530. After the next clerk came in I walked back down and put in another wake up call to their room for 0545 with a special request for another call at 0600 "just in case we overslept". Hope those "parents" had a wonderful day.

I probably should mention that my adolescent response occurred after several very polite requests to the parents to please "hold it down" Not to mention a very polite phone call to the front desk asking if they could request the parents get these children under control. Not sure what I did was the right thing to do but it sure made me feel good at the time.

You, sir, managed to exercise judicious restraint. I have visions of a small application of pepper spray under the door, which is the 21st century equivalent of the bong water booby trap of, er....my buddy, yeah, my buddy's youth. Hypothetically speaking, of course.

That is so wrong and evil. Allah will get you for that.

And I will remember it in case I am ever in the same situation. Genius

Steve P.,
Are you sure you and I didn't go to college together and pull all kinds of malicious pranks? Did you change your name due to witness protection? I swear to God we grew up together! :D (based upon your many stories of how you "take care of things".)

Rather than putting in all the effort to try to ruin their morning, why didn't you just request a room change?

(A) The place was packed. (B) When I travel it's usually for two weeks at a time...so we're talking a bit more effort than just grabbing your overnight bag and walking down the hall. The contents of my mini fridge alone would have required a hand cart. (C) It really wasn't any trouble at all and if my fighting "fire with fire" somehow managed to convey to this inconsiderate couple that their behavior was way out of line...then whatever "effort" I made was worth it.

Just MHO but if more people confronted this type of behavior (non-violently of course) as opposed to just letting it slide the world would be a lot more civil in the long run.

I agree with you, Steve
Never accept, condone, accommodate or acquiesce to rude behavior.
As a frequent biz traveler, I'm amazed how civil hotels are during the week only to morph into pure hell during family time on the weekends.

Call and request a room change for them

Actually I liked Steve's idea about wrapping kids in velcro and sticking them on the wall. I guess that is out of the question with other peoples kids.

Too bad some of your Italian buddies weren't around on my recent trip back from Oklahoma-Stan. I had worked all day and then got on the road for KY. About 6 hours up the road...somewhere in Missouri-Homa...I pulled in to get gas and grab a sandwich at the BK lounge (Burger King). As I walk in I'm greeted by the loud thump-thump sound of something some people call music. Standing in line I look over and the place is about half full with moms and dads and little kids...and one little prick sitting in the middle of the restaurant who is taking advantage of the WiFi hotspot to listen/download music with some very explicit lyrics...loud enough for all to enjoy. The manager on duty walked over and I thought "Good" she's going to put a stop to this"...Nope ! Turns out they're laughing and joking and I quickly realized that this must be her boyfriend.

Once my order was ready I made my way over to the little pricks table and sat down across the table from him. I opened my little sack of food and proceeded to eat, all the while staring at the little jack***. After about 15 seconds of this he looks over and in his best 19 y.o. Missouri-Hard-Ass voice asks if I've "got a problem". Very quietly and very calmly I replied that "yes I do have a problem" and proceeded to (as politely as possible) explain to the young man the inappropriateness of his behavior. Given what I perceived as an issue of a short attention span on his part I kept the conversation short...the end result being that he got up and moved tables and turned off the music.

Before I left three families stopped by my table to thank me for taking the initiative to solve this problem. I was happy to do so but for the life of me I can't understand how these people...how anyone can sit back and do nothing in the face of some of the way-way out of control behavior that seems to be becoming more and more common.

OK...I'm done ranting. Carry on.

I saw a mother and her 4 year old in the store the other day. I love kids and am pretty patient with new parents because, sometimes youngsters are just tired or cranky and they act up a bit. This child had a 666 tattooed on his scalp somewhere however.
The mom said, "give the candy to the lady so we can pay for it."
to which the child screamed "NO I DON"T WANT TO. I'M GONNA TAKE IT!"
then proceeded to continue screaming NONONONONOMINEMINEMINE at the top of his lungs.
Then, I kid you not, he turned to me and grinned. Wicked child.
The mom said, "Kids, what are you going to do?"
I looked that the child, gave him what my daughter calls 'the look' and said,
"I know."
The mom thought I meant "I know what you mean." but the kid understood that I meant "I know what to do." The kid's grin evaporated.
