The high cost of having fun...

by Steve P » Mon Sep 21, 2009 6:37 pm

Robin (etc),

At the last offline you and I were discussing the high price of season tickets to the Bats games...So having that conversation in mind,I thought I'd pass along the following from some students of mine who attended last nights "Gala" regular season opening of the new Dallas Cowboys stadium...

Parking: $75-100

Access to the Tailgating "Corral" (after already paying for parking): An additional $100.

Game Ticket (face value for the last row of the "nose bleed" section) $250 (A standing room only ticket was $80)

12 oz. Domestic Beer: $9

Domestic Beer (12 pack): $75

16oz. Soft Drink: $5

20" whole Pizza: $60

"Gourmet" (???) Hot Dog: $8

Cheese Nachos: $8

From my perspective this proves that at least one thing is bigger in Texas...The number of dumb asses who would pay for this kind of robbery.

It's INSANE isn't it ? I mean I know this stadium cost them 1.2 billlllllllion doh-lllllllers to build but I would think they could spread out the payments over more than one season. Using this as a benchmark I guess a Bats game is quite a bargain. I'll never bitch about paying $5 for a beer again.

What average family could afford an evening there? How sad.

It also has to do with the high price of hiring top athletes with a massive sense of entitlement for seven-figure salaries, Steve. There are quite a few reasons why having a AAA ball team in an AAA park is not entirely a bad thing.

Bats season tix aren't really that expensive ... I think we spent $500 a seat for two seats, shared with two other couples, for 72 games in Club Level. Downstairs would be a bit less.

We're still thinking it might be nice to add a fourth couple to the group next year, so if you're interested ...
