Friends of Les

by Leah S » Mon Aug 10, 2009 8:58 pm

Yeah, the court case is dragging on. And on. Here's a link if you need a refresher on what I'm talking about.

http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=ho ... 256&ref=ts

Sooo, here's the issue this week. There's a bond REDUCTION hearing on Friday of this week. Hard to believe that this guy might make bond and get out of jail. We need emails written to the Victim's Advocate so that they will be in the case file by Friday morning. There are "talking points" in the Facebook link.

If you can take a few minutes and send an email, I'd appreciate it. Les is a long-time member of the Louisville restaurant community. Who, it appears, has lost his senses of taste and smell due to the actions of a drunk driver.

thanks Suzi. The emails really do help. The prosecutors have definitely noticed the level of community outrage. Les is back at work and life has sort of returned to the "new normal." We're of course thankful that his injuries weren't life threatening or life ending.

Dear 80+ people who've read this thread,

Did you take a minute to write an email?
The life you save from this serial offender/drunk driver could be your own.

Thank you.

Please send an email - I have sent 30 years of my life dealing with the results of impaired drivers. It is just as hard for EMS, FF and PD to deal with this problem, we keep seeing it over and over. Many families are dealing with fatal results of the revolving door that the courts have become with impaired dirvers. I am off the "street' now, but I feel for my brothers and sisters out there and I still have some haunting memories of patients that were injured or dead because of anothers bad decisions. I refuse to call those runs "accidents" - an impaired driver is not causing an accident, they are deciding to harm others by their actions.

Help keep this person incarcerated - the streets will be a bit safer for it.

Leah ... as you know, it has been sent. I urge others to do the same. If we don't start speaking up when we see travesty occurring, we have no one but ourselves to blame when our society disintegrates.

Thanks again Suzi and Rebecca. Feel free to forward the info to anyone you wish. It's horrifying to read about so many drunk driver v. bicycle accidents recently.

And like Suzi mentioned when one makes the decision to drive drunk, it's hardly an accident. In Les' case, this driver took aim at him with the car and sped up in order to hit him. It really wasn't an accident at all.

Of course! And thanks!!
************************
There is a BOND REDUCTION hearing Friday, 8.14.09 at 8:45 a.m. We do NOT want bond reduced! We need to keep Met in jail awaiting trial. That's where you can help.

Please write to lshaughnessy@louisvilleprosecutor.com OPPOSING any bond reduction. Points you might include - in your own words are:

Les' injuries which the doctors believe are permanent. Loss of smell and taste. (We of course hope these senses come back.)

Continued brain swelling.

Met's long list of prior offenses that show an escalation in violence over time.

His intoxication level was more than twice legally drunk (.196 )

He is a danger to society. You do not want your family members to meet this guy.

Met is a significant flight risk. He's from another country and supposedly still as ties to that country. He also has ties to another state. At least if he's in jail we know where he is and he will still be there when the trial is held.

I am going to write! His actions are inexcuseable, and the thought of reducing his bond makes me angry. I can't imagine what he and your family have been through, and losing the sense of taste and smell would be devastating to me, and hopefully aren't permanent. I want to do what I can to help. I'd like to review the story again before I do, but am not having any luck finding it online. Do you have a link? Also, you may want to move this to the Restaurant page, only because it will get more views/results.

Thanks for the link, Leah. I sent an email on behalf of myself and my husband, and I forwarded the request to several people. Hope it helps! What an absolute injustice if they grant the bond reduction.

Hi Becky! I know Leah gets really busy this time of week with baking, but I'm guessing that it's not too late, since the hearing isn't until tomorrow morning. The more replies they can get against it, the better!

It's not too late!! As long as the emails get to Laura Shaughnessy (LShaughnessy@LouisvilleProsecutor.com) by the end of work today they'll make the case file.

Thank you ALL!!
