My dear friends....I will put it in plain and simple American English.....To Hell with the right and left.....Look at the person, and what he/she has to say. If you agree, you've found a like soul. If you disagree, you are geared for a good debate.

So far, Numbus is the only candiate that I've not heard use the typical retoric that is always flying around during election queries. He's forthright, well spoken, and has a sense of humor.

Kudos!

Paul, I've always argued that libertarians are just conservatives who want to smoke pot and look at porn. :D

Hey, more seriously, have you ever taken the Political Compass test? It's an intriguing concept that expands the too-simple left-right, blue-red, liberal-conservative dichotomy into an X-Y axis, with liberal and conservative on the horizontal axis, authoritarian and libertarian on the vertical axis.

The test is relatively simplistic - and somewhat British-accented - but it's still fascinating, and it very much holds that it's possible to be a liberal libertarian. In fact, I qualify as one, pretty far out on both axes:

Give it a try, although we probably ought to break this out as a separate thread.

So, both conservative and liberal on social issues? Would you say you're straddling the fence?

Not so much straddling the fence, but the ability to look at both sides of an issue with an open mind.

Robin, That Policical compass survey was tres interesting! I came out slightly left and even less slightly libertarian. I seem to be hovering around the middle. It just all depends . . . :)

My results returned an error message. It read: "Our charts do not go far enough left to account for your answers."

It was a joke, i.e., Paul stated that libertarains are both conservative and liberal on social issues. I assume it was a typo.

Matthew, that too funny

Mine were just a shade off dead center, which I'm rather proud of

I'm in Gandhi's quadrant, just more extreme....

It pegs me as a leftist libertarian. Which does help explain how I once dated a libertarian. But I'm sure she was more to the right, which was a problem.

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.33

Mine was couple points to the right of Charles.
