I keep a plethora of web sites saved for use. My laptop has died twice now and I've lost most of them and it leaves me feeling almost crippled!
The ones I use most often are:
http://www.usps.com - website for the postal service (I use it mostly for zip codes)
http://www.searchbug.com - a cross search engine for phone numbers and business info
http://www.urbandictionary.com - dictionary for modern terminology and slang (Blushing) I use this alot.
http://www.rulesofthumb.org - mostly fun, just lots of rules of thumb.
http://www.newsmeat.com - Find out who donated how much to whose campaign.
For fun...
http://www.overheardinnewyork.com - Sometimes funny, sometimes depressing
http://www.engrish.com - No wonder we have such a hard time communicating
http://www.NMDB.com - people profiles of all kinds
http://www.thetruth.com - because I hate the cigarette industry just that much
http://www.lolcats.com - everyone knows this site by now. I don't know why but the language just cracks me up.

Oh well, and of course, HotBytes.

Besides Hotbytes, of course...

It's a guilty pleasure, so un-PC, but Engrish.com cracks me up, too.

i could spend hours on thepioneerwoman.com. there is photography, a blog, recipes galore (i love the pot roast and pastor ryan's chicken tikka masala), all sorts of interesting things to read.

i'm a video game junkie so i tend to waste a great deal of my time on free online games, or FOG.com. my very favorite game is raft wars.

Question...
When it comes to truth in posting, blogs and whatnot, are there any laws in place to protect against false information being posted on line? Newspapers and other print mediums, TV and radio all have well established laws in place holding them responsible for what they share. (Except for Rush Limbaugh who can apparently say whatever he wants and never be accountable for his inaccuracies.) Have federal laws been able to keep up with on line technology to guard against fraudulent information being posted as news? I know Wikipedia has been busted numerous times for fraudulent and erroneous info (which they immediately corrected). My question is, how do we know what we read is real? What guards against false information?

Now that I write this Brian I guess I should apologize for derailing your thread but I think it's worth mentioning.

Thanks for the Interior Prospect link, Ken. I wasn't expecting to find a Bachelard reference. Nice.

I'll throw in a new blog, started recently by a friend.

Thanks for that, indeed, Jeff. It seems to be touching on a lot of things that have been engaging me lately.

And, yes, it was the Bachelard that drew me to the Interior Prospect blog. I have been a fan of his for years. His work and the works of Yi-Fu Tuan and James Hillman - and our own Grady Clay - drive my interest in place and space and objects.

Our younger son lives in B'more... do you have connections to Towson? I have an old friend, former student, Dr. Elizabeth Clifford, who teaches at Towson University.

Wow.

I just spend my spare time surfing Wikipedia. Apparently I've been missing out!

I don't know that I'd call it my favorite website...but one that's been making my blood boil for the last few days is:

http://www.goldmansachs666.com/

Seriously. Do NOT go to this website unless you want to get really really pissed off.

Otherwise I stick to "fun" stuff like funny kitty videos on Youtube.
