Movers...

by Dan Thomas » Wed May 16, 2007 11:54 pm

Well..If everything goes according to plan, My wife and I will be moving back across the "Mighty Ohio" sometime within the next couple of weeks. If anyone has a recommendation for a moving company that will treat my belongings like their own for a reasonable rate, and not hold my stuff hostage, feel free to chime in. Normally, I would handle this the old-fashoned way(Invite friends and family and ply them with alchohol and pizza)but with my crazy work schedule and other commitments this doesn't seem possible right now. We have some nice stuff that I don't want to see banged around too much. I appreciate any suggestions...

Dan-I used Gilbert Thomas Movers (831-394-1946) when I moved from St Matthews out to Crestwood. I moved from a 1,500 SQ Ft little house to a comp. condo so you have an idea how much furniture I had. They came highly rec to me by a work associate who had just moved from a much bigger home. They were fantastic! It's an elderly man and his sons and family members with a single truck. I moved in 100 degree heat to a 3rd floor condo -no elevator- and they did it quick and with much care given to myh belongings. Very reasonably priced too. I would use them again in a heartbeat and have no problems rec them to anybody.

I used "Two Guys and Truck" and they did a superb job at a much lower cost than the big national companies.

I've used Odle Movers three times in about seven years and they've been terrific. I always find that it is good, too, to let the guys know what the range of their tip will be based on your expectations (amount of time taken, no damages, etc.).

We've used JD Taylor and Sons twice and both times very happy. Nothing broke, nothing scratched!

I had a very bad experience with A. Arnold & Sons during a commercial move, and I would never (ever) consider using them for a commercial or personal move. That's just my opinion based on one unpleasant event and your mileage may vary.

To follow up...We have finally moved and are now getting settled into our new digs. We did hire Chappell's to help with the move and have nothing but the highest praise for those guys. Due to selling of the old house and buying of the new one, the closing dates didn't match-up(do they ever?), but they left our stuff on the truck for a couple of days for no additional charge. I was most impressed with the way they manhandled our old player piano(which took six of us to move last time). It only took two guys and there was narry a scratch or ding. The guys they sent out were very nice and very careful with our belongings. They charge by the hour so I feel we definatey got our money's worth. Thanks for all of your recommendations.
