Sidewalk Shakedown Sale & BBQ July 4th at DCE!!

by Marsha L. » Fri Jun 05, 2009 1:39 pm

Matthew and I have been talking about doing a rummage/vinyl/yard sale at DCE this summer, and we've decided to do it on the 4th of July, closing down the sale just before the concert on the river that evening!

These details are from the Facebook notice for the event:

We're going to be sidewalk sailing all day long on Saturday the 4th of July. Do you want to sell something? We are now accepting people to set up and do a massive rummage sale before this year's 4th of July waterfront Concert. Get in touch if you want to have a table. We'll be BBQing all day, drinking beer too! Get in on the action! Then let's get the FUNK on with Lyrics Borne, Greyboy allstars & The OHIO Players!!!

Beginning at 9 AM, we will set up on the sidewalk in front of DCE. Everyone who wants to sell things needs to bring their own table/horizontal surface of whatever kind to display their items on. We expect books, music (including vinyl!) - heck, bring anything that's not illegal! We're asking that everyone donate 10% of their proceeds to a fund for Wayside Christian Mission, down Market Street.

In addition, Matthew's gonna fire up the gas grill in the courtyard out back, and everyone can bring their own meat/vegetables/tofu to grill, and side dishes to share - a free-for-all potluck. And don't forget Matthew's amazing beer selection - a draw all on its own!

At 5:00 we'll shut down, pony up our 10% for Wayside, and go down to Waterfront Park to the Louisville Independent Festival, where we can hear hip hop artists Lyrics Borne (these guys are great, I was turned on to them a couple years ago by a fellow cook at L&N), acid jazz band Greyboy Allstars, and OHIO PLAYERS! After that, it's fireworks and then back to Matthew's for a nightcap.

You can sign up in this thread or on Facebook, and we'll consolidate the lists in a couple weeks.

I know I've got a lot of stuff I could stand to get rid of. Not to mention the food, the company, the funds that'll get raised for Wayside, and the Music! So start signing up, people! And if you don't want to sell things, just bring your potato salad and chicken drumsticks and join us anyway. Who knows - you might even find something to buy!

Sounds like a lot of fun. And a good cause to boot.

That sounds delicious. I think I'll make some polenta to grill, if I get it together in time. Should be a fun day!
