It's Children's Day at the market this Saturday! This special event comes on the heels of our first ever Seniors' Appreciation Day. (You can read more about that elsewhere in this newsletter). Many kid-friendly, free activities are planned.
Face painting will be offered at the Beargrass booth. And as usually happens on our Children's Day, there will be a farm animal or two for the kids to watch!
Junior Master Gardeners from St. Mary's Academy will be at the market. They are jointly sponsored by their school and the Jefferson County Extension Service. One of their projects this school year has been raising chickens, which the class incubated. They will have eggs for sale and hope to have the chickens on display (although their teacher may not bring them since their recent behavior has been described as that of "rowdy teenagers"). Also, the students have learned about propagating plants and will provide information and answer questions about the subject.
The Food Literacy Project also will be on hand. The Food Literacy Project is
a non-profit education agency partnering with a working farm to teach the Louisville community about the processes and products of organic and local agriculture.
Our featured musicians this Saturday will be Leigh Ann Yost with special guests from the Louisville School of Rock. Clare Hagan is the 2009 winner of the 16-and-under singing contest at the recent Abbey Road on the River! Also appearing is legendary Louisville musician Richard Streander, LSOR instructor. The Louisville School of Rock offers summer camps; for more information contact: school@urock2.com.
