Hair salons in St. Matthews

by MarieP » Thu May 28, 2009 11:00 am

Yes, I know it's funny asking about hair on a restaurant forum ;-)

I am looking for a good place to get my haircut in St. Matthews. I used to go to Fantastic Sam's when it was in the Old Sears Building, followed one stylist in particular to Herr Lane and now out in Middletown. I'd still go out there, but I noticed that there are a plethora of places nearby and I wouldn't mind paying a bit more to save time!

Here is my list, feel free to comment and make other suggestions:

Studio 151 (151 Thierman)
Chopping Block (127 S. Sherrin)
All For You (4113 Oechsli, #E)
Raven About Hair (168 Sears)
Essentials (4156 Westport)
Snips (3939 Chenoweth Square)
Studio 152 (152 Chenoweth)
J. Marie (9810 Wilmington)
Admirations (138 Wiltshire)- have they moved? it looks like a residential house with no signage

All of these seem to be in the same price range. I have heard good things about Chopping Block and Essentials. And the sister of a good friend of my family works at Studio 151. I found that out when I trimmed my own bangs and cut them a tad too short. She trimmed them up quite nicely for free!

I don't want a place that will do things to my hair that I don't want done. I have a low maintenance style (I only have to get it cut every 3 months!) that I like. So, I'd want a "classic" salon rather than anything contemporary.

I have been going to Stephen at the chopping block for about 18 years. He is very good, and once I found someone that can cut MY hair I stayed with him. (not the cheapest, but worth every penny.

I understand he a a color specialist as well if needed.

Last week I recommended Twisted Salon on the forum, as did another member, and I think she had a great experience. I use Jessica Cohen, but everyone there seems very nice & competent. Jessica used to be at Chopping Block, so I followed her to twisted. There are some very talented color people at Chopping block, and they have a nice upstairs for skin services.
Good luck.

I went used to go to Studio 151 and used Theresa and LOVED her. Now I go to someplace closer to my house. I would highly recommend her!
I've also been to the Chopping Block and had a bad hair coloring experience, but that was years ago.

We used to go to Vicky at Blades on Chenoweth Lane.
However, for several years, we have gone to Angela at Medusa on Hubbards Lane in the same shopping center with Kroger.

I'm sure they do great work, Ellen, but I can't help chuckling at the name!

Yeah, the name is great! In the bathroom, they even have a stone surround around the sink that says, "And all who looked upon her were turned to stone."

My buddy artist Steve Irwin designed that space! I was in there during the decorating. It is gorgeous.
