Cleaning Pine Sap

by GaryF » Sat May 23, 2009 11:14 pm

Well, I parked under the wrong tree and my car is now spotted with pine sap. It looks like it has measels.
I've tried alcohol and acetone to remove it, to no avail. I went to the hardware store and they sort of laughted at me and shook their heads. Does anyone have a secret to this problem they would be willing to share? Thanks.

Gary I have the same problem on my little car. I was going to use Goo Be Gone because I know it works great on everything else but wasn't sure what, if anything, it might do to my car's paint . Annemarie, have you used it on auto paint? Is it cool to do that?

If you use the bug and tar remover, go slowly a bit at a time, it can take off some layers of paint. Also have some rubbing compound and wax handy if you notice a change in the paint color after.

Goo be gone and mayo.
I put the mayo on the places that were really stubborn and let it sit for a while and the sap came right off. The goo be gone worked on the lighter spots. I wonder why the mayo works? Must have something to do with proteins bonding or some such.
