downtown hotels in the '70's?

by Lisa Stephenson » Mon May 18, 2009 10:34 am

I was going through old pictures and came across one from the late 70's. It was a view from a downtown hotel that was apparently a Sheraton Inn, according to the caption written on the back. I can't tell what the cross streets are, but there is an Avis rental car sign on one corner and you can see the tall blue apartment/condo building in the distance. That building is still there now, but I don't know the name.

Does anyone know where the Sheraton was?

That building in the distance would be the 800 Building, also known as the "Turquoise Tower of Power" - 800 South 4th St., if that helps.

It could be the Seelbach hotel. At one time it was a Sheraton hotel property.

I'm not sure but could that have been the old Stouffer's Inn--cattycorner to McDonalds on Broadway?

That is what I think it might be. I remember an Avis sign there.
