Kilgore Garden Tour

by Gayle DeM » Sat May 16, 2009 9:47 pm

If you are looking for something to do tomorrow, I highly recommend the Kilgore Garden Tour, featuring six gardens in Anchorage and Pewee Valley plus the living areas of three of those homes. The tour costs $25 for all six garden and the three living areas. Hours are from 10-5 o'clock. Ticket may be purchased at any of the gardens.

The gardens (and homes, marked with *)are
1. Olde Pine Tower, !08 Mount Mercy Drive, Pewee Vally (The site of this year's plant sale.)
*2. Isaac Hite House, 12401 Lucas Lane, Anchorage (Listed on the National Historic Register, this house centers around a two-story log home built in 1778.)
*3.Pine Hill, 2125 Cave Spring Place, Anchorage (an Arts and Crafts style house, dating from the 1860s!)
4. The Secret Garden, 2701 Cave Spring Place, Anchorage (The secluded back yard is the secret garden.)
5. John Marshall, Sr. House, 12106 East Osage Road, Anchorage (includes Tulip Poplars that are over 200 years old)
*6. Leist-Richard House, 222 Lakeland Road, Anchorage (Built in the 1880s as the original general store of the village of Lakeland, this house, which has been in the same family for over 125 years, is like stepping into a museum.)

Additionally, lunch from a special menu is available at the Owl Creek Country Club from 11:00-2:00 for @12.00, including gratuity. However, forumites are advised that Selina's is on the road between houses 5 and 6.

The tour supports the Kilgore Samaritan Fund which assures that no one is ever turned away from the Kilgore Samaritan Counseling Center in St. Matthews and in Harrods Creek.
