Where do you shop for fabric?

by Leann C » Wed May 13, 2009 5:28 pm

I used to do all my fabric shopping at Baer's. Currently, I'm looking for a place that also has a discount remnant section like Baer's used to have. Need some cheap fabric in bulk, for party decorations. Is there anyplace like that left in Louisville (or within a reasonable driving distance)?

The loss of Baer's has killed my hobby, mostly.

I do like the new JoAnn's Fabric and Craft store, but it is really only good for cheaper, crafty projects, not for suitings or anything really nice. Have you been yet?

You can sign up for their email and snail mail coupons too.

Where is JoAnn's? I may go tomorrow & take a look around. I'm in the Highlands if there are multiple locations.

There's a Hancock's Fabrics in Clarksville too, on Lewis & Clark Blvd., west of Greentree Mall, in front of Kmart.

Also, consider Ben Franklin's (State Street in New Albany and Shelbyville Road in Middletown).

I've also heard good things about Joann.

Hobby Lobby also has a fabric section. They run great sales too; you can check their website for their current specials.

Also, I was in a Walmart once and happened upon an impressive fabric selection. I especially remember their collection of whimsical, licensed material, particularly Mary Englebright. They may have what you're looking for if it's for decorations. I can't remember which Walmart though. But, it was a long time ago though, so they may all carry fabric now, I'm not sure.

The closing of Baers was such a loss to the city. A moment of silence please...

You might try Making Ends Meet in Shelbyville http://www.makingendsmeetky.com/index.php3

We have purchased fabric for crafty stuff as well as upholstery and historical costuming. They do have remnants and (I think) decent prices.

JoAnn's is in Shelbyville Road Plaza - brand new part of the plaza - all the way in the back. The entrance actually faces Bolling Blvd. At least I THINK that is the name of that road!
