wedding dress cleaning

by Megan Watts » Mon Apr 20, 2009 3:43 pm

My coworker wants to know where she should get her dress cleaned/preserved. Honestly, mine is still hanging in the closet dirty (after 4 yrs!) and every girl that I met while we were planning our weddings is in the same boat. Where would you recommend??

I can't tell you how happy I was to read this- mine's been dirty in my closet for almost 6 years now! What a relief to know I'm not the only one...

You want to talk about a "clean" wedding dress...or should I say "cleaned" on a wedding dress. Last month my daughter permanently postponed her August wedding and cleaned me to the tune of...well never mind. GRRRRR.

Sorry, had to get that off my chest. Carry on.

I've noticed that the NuYale Cleaners on Grinstead Drive advertises pretty heavily for their wedding dress cleaning/preservation. Highland is very good but also very expensive, it may be worth comparing prices.

We've tried quite a few cleaners and ended up faithful to Highland because they are far better than the competition. I no longer get angry every time I come home from the cleaners. I honestly don't know how their prices compare and don't really care. They've sold us on the basis of quality. (And the branch that's in the same block with Lotsa Pasta, Rainbow Blossom, Stan's, The Fishery, Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Shop and Simply Thai is a great place for foodies to make a dropoff. :D

I can't speak to wedding dresses specifically. Mary and I had a "non-traditional" wedding. ;D But I would trust Highland with anything. We had them do an antique Persian carpet from our living room as a test, and they did a better job for a little less money than a well-known local antique-carpet specialist (who also does well).

Steve, a perm. postponed wedding is a lot cheaper than a bad marriage and a divorce! Especially emotionally!
