Vetenarian needed

by Phil Gissen » Sat Feb 21, 2009 9:47 am

I am sorry to use this food forum for this, but I do not know where else to turn being new to Louisville. Our dog hurt her leg last night, and we need a etenarian today. Do any of you have any suggestions? Thank you very much, and I am sorry for using this forum for this need. Phil G.

Phil,
Even though I live in Oldham County I use Dr. Pat King at Iroquois Animal Clinic. Great guy. No up sell. Low overhead. If he can't help he will point you in the right direction. I sent you a PM with his cell.

Lynn Horrar at Highland Vet. Clinic (near the Kroger on B-town Road) is terrific, and she is open on Saturday mornings.

We have gone to Dr. Burhl Bond at St. Matthews Animal Clinic for 25 or 30 years and could not recommend them enough. Their number 895-8100.

We take our furry babies to Shivley Animal Clinic. Not even in our part of town, but the furries have had excellent care, and we've had animal emergencies also.

Thank you all so much. Donna is on the phone with the St. Matthews Clinic right now. I appreciate all your help. This Forum has really helped me feel a part of the Louisville community. I do appreciate it. Phil

If you ever need it (hopefully not), the Louisville Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Services were terrific for us with our Yorkie - twice. Once when he broke his leg, and last summer, they saved his life after he became ill with some unknown bug. Very nice folks, but location might be an issue - out on Shelbyville Rd near the Gene Snyder.

Sorry I wasn't here this morning, and I hear good things about St. Matthews Animal Clinic, too, so I hope your experience was a good one and your dog is healing fast.

For future reference, I can't speak too highly of Dr. Rusty Doerr at Doerr Animal Clinic, on Herr Lane just off KY 22 (opposite Ballard High School). We've been using them for over 20 years and trust them implicitly, and continue to go out to the suburbs <gasp> from Crescent Hill because no other vet has made us as happy.

You're probably all squared away, but for future reference, there's the Jefferson Animal Hospital & Regional Emergency Center, 4504 Outer Loop, in Louisville, 502-966-4104. Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

We've had maybe three occasions to use them and have always been exceptionally pleased. They continued to follow up with our own veterinarian afterward too, and in one very difficult case worked in tandem with them til we figured out the right course of treatment.

Sounds like everything is under control now, but I second the recommendation for Lynn Horrar at Highland Animal Clinic. We take our cats there. The clinic is on Bardstown Rd. a block to to before Kroger on the left (if you're coming from the Highlands). Shively & Middletown are good for emergency situations.

We used to live near there, so we took our dog there for everything. I love Doctor Fowler, and Monica - not sure her title - Vet Assistant perhaps. And although I do not care for Dr. Isherwood's bedside manner, he really knows his stuff. We now live 40 minutes away in Oldham County and I still take our dog there.

Two big paws up for the staff at Jefferson Animal Hospital.

Thank you one and all! Tizi is limping, but she is on anti-inflamatories and we are feeling better. Our "pup" has become like a child since our daughter flew the coop and left Donna looking for someone to take care of who is less needy then me. Thanks again. I can't make it to Flabby's but I do need to meet all of you people some day. You all sound kind and caring and we need friends! It gets tiring talking to bar tenders every night.

We use Dr. John's Pet Care Clinic for immunizations. He travels between Feeder's Supply stores during the week, giving rabies/immunization shots at a discounted rate, and he's just fantastic with our 3 large, bositerous dogs. He also has an office with regular hours over by Costco. We've also used Stonefield on Moser Rd., and were happy with them, as well.
