I have a cherished oil by mt grandmother that really needs a good cleaning. Any thoughts about where in Louisville I should take it?

Gary,
I have a document from the 1600s that I wanted to have cleaned and preserved - I ended up taking it to the Kentucky Document Preservation Laboratory in Frankfort. I don't know if they clean paintings as well, but it may be a good resource for a referral. There is also a good restoration company in Oberlin, Ohio that restored the large altar piece that the Louisville Catholic Diocese has on loan to the Speed. You can probably Google and find it.

TP's suggestions sound good. However, I would also suggest calling the Speed Museum and asking a curator for suggestions.

I think TP is referring to the McKay Lodge Conservation Laboratory. http://www.mckaylodge.com/ The Speed has used them quite a bit.

My boyfriend worked at Framemakers for 20+ years, eventually owning his own gallery and has cleaned oil paintings professionally for years. He said he would be happy to clean it for you for a very reasonable price. Just call me at 296.6922 and I will hook you up!
