We donated an old Corolla to Volunteers of America a few years ago, and the process was fairly seamless, although we did have to drive it out somplace way out in the Southwest to do the deed. Now that might be a good opportunity to go to Mike Linnig's or Taco Tico.

A couple of points: They don't actually say otherwise, but if you are envisioning a nice homeless family inheriting your fixed-up car, put that idea aside. VOA actually gets rid of them in bulk at auto auctions, banks the money and forgets the cars. Your old jalopy will probably end up for sale in some mom'n'pop used car lot somewhere.
Still, the money, such as it is, goes to a good cause, and you get a fairly tightly restricted tax deduction.
