Is there anything, within, maybe, the alread-existing charitable organizations that does anything along the lines of gardening and teaching folks how to cook? Or anything along those lines anywhere in Louisville?

The Salvation Army has culinary training for homeless. Tim Tucker is in charge of training and cooking for the Salvation Army homeless feeding program.

In fact if you wish to divest yourself of some of your excess cash, a fund raiser dinner is being held 2/10 at Sullivan for the mere price of 100.00/person.

The city of Louisville sponsors some community gardens. Have no idea if there is any teaching involved.

C.,

My head went to Salvation Army too. Chef Timothy does an incredible job training folks to be able to cook and how to get/keep a job. He's also a big Slow Food/ sustainable food person.

I was hoping to find something related to the Slow Food/sustainable issues. Thanks. Two votes for the same person is good news.

Fox Hollow does some great classes not just on cooking but a whole "relationship with the earth and its bounty" sort of thing. From organic gardening to harvesting and preparing your own home grown foods. It seems many folks have become so accustomed to reaching into to freezer to grab something to prepare that they don't know what to do when handed an eggplant or turnip. The classes are in a lovely setting out on their farm off HWY 329. Pretty sure they have a web site you can check out for dates/times.
