Do you love your doctor?

by MichelleS » Tue Feb 03, 2009 6:00 pm

I don't love mine.

I would like to find a GP that is open and communicative, doesn't make me FEEL like I am only getting three minutes of their time, even if that's all I get, encourages and answers questions, and views me as a participant in my own care. If you know this doctor, please tell me who it is.

If they are located in Crescent Hill or St Matthews that is a bonus.

If it is a woman, that is a bonus.

Thanks gang. I know you had all kinds of good dentist recommendations so I look forward to your replies.

Dr Cathleen Morris meets all of those criteria and more. I'm not sure if she is taking new patients but I'm sure that all of the doctors in this practice are fantastic, very thorough and don't treat you like a number.

Oh jeez, this is a subject I've gone round and round with for years. I had the same doctor for 15 years in Chicago. *Loved her*. Since I started following Gary around hell and creation, finding a doctor turned into a major pain, and although I thought a woman doctor would be the answer, the truth is none of them were worth the paper their degrees were written on, male or female.

Recently, though, having finally given up on my recent, female doctor who would invariably do nothing more than push me out the door after five minutes whilst pushing pills on me at the same time, I found a doctor closer to home, and here's the bizarre thing.... I haven't even seen him yet, but I've fallen in love with his nurse practitioner who is truly one of the best health care practitioners I've ever come across.

I'd never really heard of nurse practitioners before, but, truly, for most of folks' health-care needs, they're as qualified as any general practitioner. She's turned my life around.

Michelle, you might search for a similar thread a while back.

I'll repeat: My GP is GREAT. Dr. Albert "Cap" Hoskins is humane, intelligent, caring and communicative ... and a wine enthusiast for good measure. My wife also loves Dr. Brenda Townes. They are both in the same practice at Baptist East. I don't know if they are taking new patients, but it's worth a try: 3900 Kresge Way, Suite 54 (Fifth Floor), 896-6696.

Nanine Henderson, DO
4010 Dupont Circle, Ste. 200
Louisville, KY 40207
(502) 893-5422

Dr. Henderson is a wonderful doctor and person. She takes the time necessary to really get to know you and understand all of the complex factors in your life. In my opinion, she has a great combination of a traditional approach mixed with an appreciation for meditation, yoga, things beyond the science of medicine.

Yes! I LOVE my doctor! In fact I moved to Lexington for 2 and a half years and while I was there I commuted to see her because I love her so much. I recommend her to everyone I know. Great bedside manner, takes lots of notes on everything you tell her, spends a lot of time with you on every visit, asks lots of questions, etc. I really feel like she takes everthing I say seriously. (I've had a problem with Doctors not listening to me in the past.)

Dr. Elizabeth V. Bates
6400 Dutchmans Pkwy
Lou. KY 40205
502-259-5284

She does internal medicine (general practice) and she's located in the Springs building across Dutchman's from Books-a-Million, etc.

I have to say, I've had the exact opposite experience with Dr. Henderson. I've always found her staff to be rude, and I usually have to beg to get an appointment to see her. When I finally do get in to see her, I feel rushed. We've been "gonna switch" for years, but with our schedules, it's just been too much trouble to find a new Doctor. If we get sick, we go to the Immediate Care Center. :/

Just my opinion, of course. Your experience may vary.

I have the most wonderful family physician but she's on the east end Shelbyville Road/Gene Snyder. Her name is Melanie Story and she's in family medicine east. I even got my husband to go see her and he would have never seen a female physician before. She's one of the most caring physicians I've ever been to.

I love my doctor Rex Lagerstrom SOOOOO much - he's an artist as well as a general practitioner.

When the first Jarvik heart operations took place, Rex drew the technical illustrations of the procedures for later use in textbooks. He also does stained glass and oil painting. Quite the renaissance man, Dr. Rex.

If I'm not mistaken, he used to be in Cap Hoskins's practice, which is another plus in his behalf.

We're trying to find a new doctor, but I can't locate Dr. Lagerstrom in the pages. Do you have a number for him? He sounds like the kind of doc we could relate to, and one that I MIGHT be able to get my husband to go see!

My GP is Dr. Marcia Ebbs, MD....her area is Family Medicine, and she's excellent -- probably meets all of the criteria you're seeking -- BUT she's in LaGrange...contact info in the White Pages.
