I had a dinner date tonight and we mutually decided to cancel it. Snow is not a problem for me but the ice is. And more of both is on the way. Good thing I hit the Asian and Hispanic groceries last week. Now I don't have to fight the crowds this afternoon.

Annemarie, I love the snow as well. The more the merrier. The problem we're having today is all the ice and it looks like plenty more is on the way. Then more snow on top of that and then even more ice on top of that. Wooohooooo.

I enjoy the snow as long as I don't have to go out & scrape down my car. Luckily, my husband and I are both working from home today and don't have to go anywhere. I just made a batch of strawberry muffins and "invented" a spice cake recipe using whatever was in the cupboards. We'll see how it turns out. It's still in the oven. I usually do not bake (hate to follow precise directions). But this weather has put me in the mood. Plus, the house smells great! I may put my boots on later and stomp up to Bardstown Rd. An espresso from Ray's Monkey House is quietly beckoning. Have a good afternoon everyone. Stay safe & warm.

I wasn't talking about the weather because I had been out in it from the start! Currently I am grateful for dry socks and warm blankets as I got in finally a short time ago. I had to drive the roads at 2am when it was the worst to Indiana and back and I can say that conditions outside right now are a cakewalk in comparison. I know we're in for a busy day at work, for some reason it seems like nursing homes and the like decide that this sort of weather is the perfect time to call an ambulance for someone that has had a cough for three days or bumped their knee two weeks ago. Not to mention that during the last ice storm we went on literally dozens of calls for people that slipped and fell outside. So I do ask everyone to please, please, please be careful, even if it is just to check the mail...quite a few of those people got no further that their yards. Well off to take a nap before I get to bundle up and do it all again tonight!

My heart goes with you, Mandy. My brother starts back to work tomorrow as EMS in the nasty back roads of Henry Co.
Now, I know that I have lived back here for 4 years, but I gotta say- this weather scares me a little. Since I didn't have a car and drove only once or twice a year for 25 years I have no confidence on the road in all this. Did I mention that I live on a STEEP hill?
Where are the taxis of yesterday?

Remind me again why we want to move to Louisville...

But then again, tomorrow we're supposed to get a foot of the white stuff and -9 wind chills up our way.

So enjoy the balmy weather! :P

I love snow. Love, love, love it. However, I do not like the ice. I say, in this situation, DON'T let it snow. The last thing we need is more weight on the wires, in any form. Our lights are already flickering.

All the trees where I live are bending and I cannot see the power lines. More ice, more snow, then even more ice is in the forecast. I hope people don't start losing power and having accidents but it is inevitable. :(

Has anyone heard any estimates on when power might be restored? I'm really worried about my pets in these cold temps and all calls to LGE get a recording then a disconnect. I'm on my crackberry and can't find more information.

They have people out but no one is saying how long it will take. :( Here is a story from WHAS. http://www.whas11.com/topstories/storie ... 08a1b.html

Jesse - I haven't heard any time tables for bringing electricity back up and I listened to parts of the Mayor's press conference. I know LG&E is reporting 75,000 without power with the hardest hit areas being Shively, Okolona, the Highlands, St. Matthews and Kenwood. There are over 2500 power lines down. The Red Cross phone number is 589-4450 or 211 and the city is assessing the need for shelters.

Be sure to turn your water on just a trickle to keep your pipes from freezing. If you leave the house, shut the water off where it comes into your house.

This is taken from a news site.

Chris Hermann, spokesman for E.On U.S., the parent company of LG&E and Kentucky Utilities, said 200,000 of its customers across the state were without power.

But Hermann said he expects that number to grow as the morning goes on and the storm continues to track across Central Kentucky.

More than 300 crews are out assessing damage in Louisville, but Hermann said the storm has to stop before restoration can get into full swing.

Try the alternate LG&E number that WLKY gave out verbally this morning. It's either 589-4144 or 589-1444. If you get through, let us know which one worked.
