Can anyone recommend a good refrigerator repair person?

Your recommendations (or comments) are appreciated.

Thanks, as always.

Buy a new one. More and more things are throw aways. If it is any expense at all, you are better off buying new and getting the warranty.

Let me revise my remarks.......If you are talking about a minor repair, fine, but if you need a new compressor or something like that...

Also the age would sway my decision.

I don't throw out the frig everytime it quits.

There was a time "Due to the cost of Good Commercial Eqpt." that it was well worth the repair bill to keep it running vs purchasing new. Wes is correct in his statement "Get a new one" with the decision based upon type of repair, age etc.

The cost of Equipment "Similar to Computers" has gone down in recent years due to Imports and streamlining of the mfg. process, in addition older Equipment may contain discontinued freon (R-12 or 502 for freezers). There are replacement gas products to keep them running but they are not as efficient as the original product and DO NOT perform as well during the summer months without the additional cost of increasing the size of the cooling evaporator inside the box, hence get a new box.

One hidden problem with the older refrigerators which is typically overlooked by the consumer are Non Coated evaporator coils. Vegetables create an acid which attacks and pits the coil unless it has been epoxy coated at the factory, they are tough if not almost impossible to clean on a regular basis and are one of the items which would push you to get a new box.

Looking at typical repair costs vs a new box.

Single Door Box: Anything other than a thermostat, freon charge, door gasket replacement etc., get a new box.

Two Door Box: Typically $1900.00 and up, Service can go a long way, the majority of customers look at spending up to half the cost of a new box, if the box, doors and gaskets etc. are in proper working order the choice is typically to repair the box.

Three Door Box: $2600 and up, same as two door.

Specialty Box's "Spec Box's", Four door, Split door, Pass thru etc. You can replace the entire refrigeration system, Compressor, Evaporator, Upgraded thermostat etc. for a fraction of a new box.

One big thing in the decision making process of Repair or Replace is the mfg. of the box you currently are using. True, Migali, Beverage Air, Cold Tech, Continental etc. are production box's and may not be worth the cost of repair if it gets deep, on the other hand,Traulsen, McCall, Hobart, Continental Hi-Line etc. are box's which you can drop some money into and lower your refrigeration per hr. cost over the life of the unit with good service results.

I hope this info helps in your repair or replace decision.
