Where can I buy nice packaging?

by Sonja W » Mon Dec 15, 2008 9:13 pm

I'm putting together some foodie-themed Christmas packages to mail out to friends. I plan to re-wrap some of the items to look less "grocery store-ish," namely the cheeses. I want to replace the current price tags with a blank sticker upon which I'll hand-write the names and descriptions of the cheeses. Then I'd like to place the items in a box with that horsehair-type stuff so that they don't rattle around.

Where can I find a variety of box sizes, that horsehair stuff and blank stickers?

Thank you for your suggestions!

Sonja,

That "horsehair -type stuff" is called Excelsior. I have most of 10 lb box in my garage that I'd be happy to donate to the cause if you want to come get all/part of it. Just PM me.

Campbell's usually has a selection of baking boxes, as does Williams-Sonoma ( though they are expensive).

Target has a bunch of fold-em-up boxes back with the Christmas stuff ... Mary just stocked up the other night. They looked pretty tasteful and were reasonably priced. I didn't see any excelsior, but you'd think they'd have some.

Big Lots has a nice assortment of tins.

You may want to also try Hobby Lobby, Michaels, and JoAnns.

I'm not aware of anyone who sells true excelsior other than wholesale in large quantity. Most of the hobby places sell crinkle-cut paper to use for "stuffing" in boxes/bags, but it's expensive in quantity.

True excelsior, false excelsior, whatever. ;)

Stop in at your local Dollar Tree. They have LOTS of packaging products, including boxes, tins, small baskets, shrink wrap bags, and much more.

P.S.: Office Depot and Staples, etc. carry styrofoam peanuts, including the new break-apart kind.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. You've given me a lot to go on. Now I've got to stop procrastinating and send the packages!

Yes! I get most of my wrapping paper/bags from here.
